What would you do with a H23A1 engine with a broken T-belt???
Recently picked up a H23A1 engine with a broken t-belt. I believe all the valves are bent. Engine has 140K on it. Haven't had a chance to tear it apart yet, but I believe the block is still in good shape. The t-belt broke at around 35MPH, so I think all it needs is new valves and valve seals.
So if you had a H23A engine in your hands, what would you do? Junk the H23A head and find a VTEC head? Rebuild the engine, buy new valves, and throw it in a Civic? I need ideas people.
Thanks.

Unless you're in MN, don't really feel like selling it. (I don't want to deal with shipping an engine.)
I already have a '93 Civic CX Hatch with a JDM H22A, very fast. Now a Civic 4-door with a H23A, hmm....that's something to think about.
Boost, nah....my spring project is to boost my '96 Prelude VTEC.

so I think all it needs is new valves and valve seals.
That's obviosuly not too cheap but if you are going to build it why not go all the way and get forged.

If the timing belt snapped your pistons are going to be all dinged up and you will probably need new pistons.
man ive popped mine 4 times now and the pistons are still fine. u cant even tell. latest compression test yeilded 203 the weakest.

I agree with you. I've taken plenty of engines apart w/broken t-belts. The piston is what takes out the valves. But then again, there's always going to be someone out there to prove me wrong.
I guess I'll find out this Thanksgiving weekend. I'll have time to take apart the engine and maybe even take some pics.

I did the same thing. I bought an H23 engine that has a spun rod bearing. I am going to just tear it apart and see what I can do with it. I basically got mine for free.
Almost new DC Sport headers, 2 AEM Adj. cam gears, H23 engine, ecu, and tranny, and spark plug wires for $350. Not bad..huh??
