Default Amount for 93 Civic Hatchback engine

I'v had the worst thing happen to me about 2 weeks ago. My first car, a 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback, has died. The engines blown on it after 260,000 miles. I'm completely new to cars and know nothing about them except wiring car stereos. I was just wondering how much a engine from a junk yard or somethings gonna cost me and is it worth replacing the engine or getting another used car.

Update!
they told me the engine would cost me 2k, does that seem right to anyone? and i had a 1.6l vtec engine in the car, can anyone tell me where it came from cause its not the original engine from car. and what engine should i look for?

Ha, you sound like me, i started in car stereo's and because i was building a SPL system and needed a hatchback car i bought a 94 civic hatch then got into honda's real big. Here locally i can get a d15 or d16 motor from a junkyard for 165 dollars, i just have to pull it out the car myself, i assume your transmission is still good? if so then you just need a long block (block and head). Usually street costs for this motor from an individual is gonna be 200-500 bucks because they have swapped it out of a car, but a dealership is gonna charge you like 3000 to get one and put it in the car. Its your decision what route you go, of course the most costly is gonna reallistically be the Safest way to go (if engine is new) and there is always more risk when buying older and used, but personally i would find a friend/person who knows how to pull a motor (pretty easy) and pay the guy a little cash to help you pull it out. Just make sure your donor car has a motor in it that is obd1( the same ecu generation) as yours, so basically find a 92-95 civic, and the motor should work fine,

First off 2K is way too much for a motor.. Second why would you want to put that kind of money into your car that has 260,000 miles on it? I could understand maybe if you're hanging onto it for 15 years. You can get good clean junkyard motor for that car for 300 dollars average. Get one you can hear run. It's a pretty easy swap.

well cause we've replaced a lot of the parts on the car and the body is in really nice shape, we might get a car in better condition and trade over the parts. idk yet what would be the best bet?
