It would probably do fine in a strait line but I could only imagine what would happen when you try to turn.

If you are going for drag only then what about a spool? They won't cost near as much as a diff will.

in sense wouldnt that just be a welded diff.
my theory of it is that the spider gears would never be able to rotate to break the weld because the gear would not be able to compress the weld between the gears. PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME IF IM WRONG. i dont want to make a big mistage. thanks

You are right same thing but I wouldnt want to take the chance myself, i know its been done before tho. I'd be too scared a little chunk of weld would break or fall off and grenade the tranny

Welded diff and spool are the same thing, you're right.

A bunch of club road racers (SCCA) would weld their diffs because LSD's were unavailable or unattainable ($$). That was mostly back in the 80's. And yes, they could turn.

Last guy I saw weld a diff was in an Accord, for demo derby.

(damn, pictures are dead.

It should be fine if the welder has any idea what he's doing.
