Default Vafc 2 question

I have 1992 2.3 SI Prelude which is now a 2.2 Vtec. The ECU that came with the motor has a spoon chip installed. I want to buy a Vafc 2 controller. Will it work along with the spoon chip, or do I need the factory chip reinstalled. I also heard that the Vafc 2 controller will work with a non-vtec ECU to make it into a vtec ECU. Is this true? and if so can I use my 2.3's non-vtec P14 ECU, to run with my 2.2 vtec motor.

no, and no. does adding a boost controller make your car a turbo??
a VAFC merely fools the ecu into thinking that it should be in VTEC earlier or later, it is only a controller.

If you have a spoon chip why get a VAFC? The spoon chip already has more aggressive fuel and ignition mapping and a vtec engagement that is optimized for that fuel/ignition mapping. your benefit will be nill to regressed performance? VTEC out of an non-VTEC ecu with a VAFC, that is a good one. VTEC ecu's are wired for VTEC operation, in addition to the hardware differences the software is completly different.

the spoon chip is for a stock setup..if u have intake, headers, exhuast, flywheel, msd, etc etc etc...u wil stil need to tune...as i had found out..i gained another 8kw at peak and 6kw at vtec engagement, with a the vafc2 after i installed a spoon chip

If the spoon chip is so much better, then why pay $400 for a controller when you can have a $40 spoon chip installed?

only have about $800 to play with. What would you suggest would be the biggest bang for my buck.

What is 8kw at peak, and with all those mods, the chip, and controller you only ran a 14 et? so is the controller worth the $400, 'cause it doesn't sound like it's worth buying a vafc2 now.

Actually a spoon chip is designed for the spoon motor and is not optimized for a stock cam setup with all the bolt on's, wrong fuel mapping for stock headflow. Getting a spoon chip with a VAFC negates itself because you have to essentailly detune the spoon chip on the fuel settings and VTEC engagement , you have gained over the spoon chip with the VAFC becuase you were just tuning back some of the power you lost installing the spoon chip. Which in essence makes the spoon chip a waste, and something like hondata should have been used to begin with because you can evolve the tuning to your setup even if you change your setup.

hmmm so i lost power u reckon? funny i had been running 14.5 with only intake/ and exhuast/ flywheel all year long, then i installed a spoon chip and ran 14.4's consistantly, then with headers and vafc2 tuned, ran best time of 14.2...after many practice runs, coz the increased power lead to excessive wheelspin, which caused slower times
on a full interior lude with street tyres...and sorry we cant get hondata in new zealand...our best option is motec, or apexi standalone witch is $2000nz dolas which is about 1400 us dollers..and since i dont have a turbo setup a vafc2 at $200 was cheaper for tuning NA

and 8 kilowats is roughly 10.7 hp
which i dyno'd at 148.4 fwkw kilowats... or 200whp...and stil havnt tuned my vafc2
