Thumping sound! Think i blew my JDM tranny? !!HELP!!
I cant figure out the problem, thought it was my tire or a loose lugnut but its not that since i swap the right side front and rear tire. and still keeps making this thumping sound..
now what it sounds like.. imagine you have 2 loose lugnuts, and as you pick up speed your wheel starts to wobble but you get that rapid thumping sound cuz the wheels is going back and forth.
the weird thing about it is that it only happens from 2nd to 5th gear, 1st gear is not affected at all!! and as soon as i press in the clutch the noise goes away. but there is no grinding of the gears or anything, the noise gets louder when i press the gas all the way down, even doh my speed doesnt increase fast i still get the noise louder than normal.
now this is a 94 H22A JDM 5spd tranny which a Quaife LSD.
if you guys can let me know before i do something stupid!
btw- its not the motor cuz i can sit there and rev and she sounds fine.

might be the clutch... loose bolts?

well, could be the motor. you have to test the motor under load, not at idle by revving.
also, the turning left and right only give you so much information. you could have a busted bearing and it still won't click when steering and under load. this happened to me with my old hybrid.
tensioner? throw out bearing? shift fork?

hmmm yeah i had the same symptoms when i fractured my axle last week, but yeah if you did the test... and in my case the thumping would only come when i turn right.... hmmmmm could it be the differential?

well i know its not engine related because i can sit there in neutral and rev all i want and nothing happens.. and i can be in first gear and nothing happens.. i can even bang vtec in 1st and its fine but as soon as i switch to second and am ak 3k you start feeling it ..switching 2-5th gears its exactly the same noise and feel
