Throwing a CEL 22. Will that affect normal driving??
Hey all,
Well, ever since I installed my H22 (just under 10K miles ago), my car has had this off and on slight hesitation issue. Most of the time, the car runs great. However, every now and again the car hesititates/boggs. You can feel it. It only does this for a few minutes and then goes away.
Based on this, I thought it could be my O2 sensor or Kncok Sensor. I was actually hoping I would throw a CEL so that I could know what it was. Well, my wish came true, but it is not what I expected.
On my way to get lunch today, the car started to hesitate again, slightly more noticeable than normal. Then the CEL came on. I just checked it and looked it up. Code 22 is what it is throwing. http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/05.php
I rarely run my car hard, and I haven't taken the car over 4K rpm in a few weeks now. On my way to lunch, I was running at 3K rpm when it started hesitating.
Anyway, my question is, will a defective VTEC oil pressure switch cause my car to hesitate at normal driving RPM?? Also, I've driven the car three times since I initially got the CEL. The second time I drove it, the CEL didn't come on for about 1-2 minutes, when it hesitated again. However, just drove it twice without the CEL coming on. I drove it over 20 miles.
Any ideas??

that cel will not effect your below vtec driving at all....
now if you had that switch leaking oil hardcore, it might hesitate due to low pressure...
that is one of the reasons that cel comes on, it is either low oil pressure, or a defective switch....make sure your oil is full....and then make sure the switch isnt spewing oil out....
then get back to us....

The hesitation is most likely fuel/spark/timing related. I doubt low oil pressure is causing the hesitation. For the CEL, check your wiring on the pressure switch (pos goes to D6, Neg to A26 for OBD1 P13). If the wiring is good, look at the screen in the sensor to make sure it's clean.
Oil level is perfectly fine.
I am running new spark plugs and wires. I am also running the same distributor that was on my H23. I had NO ISSUES when it was on my H23 motor.
I have driven it many times recently and the CEL has not come on again.
The only thing in question would be the timing. I will have that checked.

It's happening again. I was at a stop light and I think the radiator fan kicked on...and the engine light kicked on immediately. Now the CEL comes on all the time.
Code 22.
The car is bogging/hesitating under normal driving conditions.

my car is also bogging/hesitating under normal conditions. mainly around 2900-3900 rpms and only when the car is warmed up. Now, i have a leak at the flexpipe, so that might be the problem but i doubt it. Someone on here said to check the timing.
I dont ahve a check engine light, but it went on twice before. mostly when i was in the bogging out rpm speed and goin up a hill. didnt pull the code yet.
sorry for this what seems like a useless post, but in conclusion, check timing.
edit: heres the link that i recieved that details bogging and hesitation: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1090957

have you resolved the issue andy?
my car is doing the same thing.
runs good half the time, then like **** half the time.
ive also got some headwork done, and my compression is up there, im just wondering if mine is a tuning issue?

Nope, it is still doing it.
Like you said, it runs great one minute, then bogs/hesitates the other. Mine runs good most of the time though. It's 80% of the time it runs good. 20% it hesitates.
I am going to tighten up my knock sensor.
Are you getting a Code 22 too?
