Default Throttle problem...

I have searched for this, found posts, but need further clarification.

i have a 1988 honda prelude 2.0s, and i have a couple problems.. Yesterday, i was driving along, gave it some gas, and the throttle was stuck, and braking was very difficult. I stopped in neutral, and the RPMs rose to redline. I turned the car off, back on, still happened. I played with the gas pedal when off again, turned back on, and was fixed.

This morning, i went out to my car, and when i start my car, the RPMs jet right up to about 4000. When i PHYSICALLY pull the gas pedal towards me, the RPMs fall to normal. If i even SLIGHTLY tap the gas, they will quickly go back to 4000.

Is this a problem with my gas pedal, or my throttle cable?

Also, since i got the car, (about 5 months ago), i have had this problem that when i let off the gas after holding it down slightly (while driving normally), the car jerks. Also, when i turn the car off, it usually bogs down and shakes.

I looked at the throttle cable, and it is no longer held down to the mount, and is hanging off, and is rusted and breaking. I'm relatively new to this, Any ideas? Thanks.

It sounds like your first step would be to replace the throttle cable, then go from there. Get one from Honda--http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com or http://www.slhonda.com.
