test pipe problems ! car stalling and bogging
1st off- i hate the way it sounds and im going to put on the cat next weekend, but
for now i have to live with it...basically my car is bogging at low rpms? BTW - with the test pipe i installed a greddy evo catback, yet i think that this problem is irrelevant to the bogging.
ok, installed test pipe couple days ago for my 98 obd2 prelude.. pipe was 2.5 and has nut welded on top for o2 sensor..
after install the car ran fine and nothing was wrong.. no CEL no problems at idle...After driving the car for a couple hours the CEL came on the freeway...
Yesterday im trying to take the test pipe off and the damn exhaust bolts just wont budge so im going to wait till my friend and i can use his air tools to zing them off..or just drill them off..
but after the failed attempt to put the cat back on the 1st time...i decided to reset the ecu so i took out the clock fuse?? ( is that even correct? ) and let it sit for about 15 minutes...starting my car back up with the pipe installed is causing the car to just bog at low rpms...in neutral if i rev to 3k, then it'll just go down to around 200..100 rpms and 30% of the time just die... i assumed the car was just remapping because i let it sit for about 8 minutes and the car ran fine..no CEL no problems...
today while driving i noticed the car was doing the bogging low rpm problem again? what can i do to stop this until i put the cat back on?
im thinking of a resistor or some other jerry rigging ideas.. but im sure h-t has a better idea?

did you pop the O2 sensor when ****** with it? that may be your code and your entire problem. pull the code and let us know what it is. if its your O2 then replace it and you should be fine. they are sensitive, dont bump them around or roll them on the ground.
im doubting it is that because the o2 sensor never touched the ground... we tried jerry rigging it and put foil over the sensor and sticking it back in the pipe.. but that didn't do anything... the car ran fine in the beginning.. but now after i reset the ecu its running like ****...

you did what! why in the world would you use foil??? there is still residual electricity in the system, even if you turned it off a while ago. trust me. go and pull the code. i bet you fried the O2.

Chances are the code will show up as the second O2 sensor reading a voltage which is out of range. Installing test pipes on OBD2 cars will yield a CEL. However, just find yourself a O2 eliminator and you're all set. The eliminator plugs in between the O2 sensor and the harness which goes to your ECM. Makes the ECM think the O2 sensor is functioning properly.

I know someone who sells O2 Eliminators for about $70-$80 if anyone would be interested. Or, you could make your own. Someone on H-T tried it and they said it worked perfectly. He found the "how-to" on some Mustang website. Here's the post about it (it's down near the bottom): https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=282318

Ummm

That will fix are your problem it essential makes the computer think that you have the cat O2 sensor, by sending the correct voltage to the computer.

wow that comptech hooyah is expensive... im thinking of getting a resistor at radioshack and putting it in.. but odds are im just gonna put the stock cat in because the tin can noise is annoying...
whoa whoa, the secondary sensor isnt that big of a deal, just do the NTPOG workaround and it won't trip a CEL because it takes 2 ECU cyles to register a fault.
don't buy one of those devices..waste of money.. my secondary o2 sensor is just ziptied up in the engine bay because I used that port for my wideband sensor.
i can't see the secondary sensor causes you to bog at idle though...im not sure what is happening there.
