Default SUB install..

sorry, i know this isnt the best place to post this because we have the audio forum too but i dont think the prelude owners go there much. I just have a real quick question, for all you gen4 owners who have subs/amps, where did you run the power cable from battery to amp through the firewall? Oh yea, and also what are some other ways of securing the sub and amp without screwing them in?

Run it through where your wire harness is on your firewall. Passenger side right above your ECU.

Your best bet of securing your box is to screw it in while the sub is out. Just be careful where you are putting the screws though...

either have a box that takes up your whole trunk, let **** slide around in the trunk, or get a custom box that replaces your spare tire.

or do a custom fiberglass enclosure in the walls of the backseat.

Ok, i'll be checking that out tomorrow morning. About the sub, i didnt mention that it is a polk/momo custom enclosed box. I dunno, i think i'll just put it in and see how much it moves around back there. I just dont want to screw it down in case a tire blows and i need to pull the donut out (yes, i'm just paranoid like that).

You can always get those metal straps and secure them to the sides of the boxes then screw them into the floorboards. Or just take the metal straps and think about the best way of securing them for your needs. Just pop the trunk, place your sub where it needs to go, then do some brainstorming.

unless your trunk is completely full, it's going to move around alot, count on it.

heh, my donut has been sitting in my garage for about 2 years now. get a tire plug kit and a good air compressor.

i have mine running from the battery up over the weather stripping for th hood under the body pieces next to the corner of the window then into the dash so its not hanging around wear your door will naw at it till its gone, then find a way to feed it to trunk. as for the sub get some grippy material and put it on bottom of sub then put some where you want the sub and no more sliding!!!

glue velcro straps on the trunk carpet and the box. Looks a lot cleaner than straps and what not.

When I had a dual 10" sub box in my civic I used metal L brackets to secure it to the box and then to the floor. never slide around after that.

great.. thanks for the replies. I'll probably wait till after my last exam next week to set it all up. Just curious as to which way you guys chose to face the sub. I was reading that it sometimes makes the sound better or worse, but then again, does it matter that much? Maybe i'll post some pics of my setup if i get a chance to.

To get the best quality, making a custom enclosure with the speaker coming out of the foldable seat hole would be the best. But for SPL, your best bet is to face it to the rear bumper of the car if i remember my stereo stuff correctly...

depends if you love an *** load of rattle. I face my 13.5 w7 towards the front of the car. Less rattle and is a lot cleaner sounding.

that's what I did. These are "construction" pics, so don't think that's the finished product, cause it's not.

Yea, my trunk rattles like a BITCH when the sub facing the bumper (12'' Kicker L5). I face mine this way so that the bass will bounce off the trunk itself and continue itself through the hole in the back seat. Its a lot cleaner to face it towards the car but not as much bass. Just get yourself some dynomat and you'll be set.
