Default starter?

so ya i hope its just something cheap and easy to fix but here the problem.
went to leave for work last night around 12am and car just clicked, thought battery might be dead so i got a jump and it still just clicks. i don't think its the alternator because someone told me today at work that my subs would cause lights to dim when they bumped and the alternator wouldnt just go out all of a sudden.
car worked great b4.
also is it worth getting the repair kit or just replacing the entire starter( im thinking its orig starter with 250k on it)

most likely your battery is not fully charged or not capable of accepting/ holding a charge. have your battery load tested and check your alternator output. starters click when they aren't getting enough voltage, not because there is something wrong with them. good luck

alt's can just die (the rectifiers (diodes) can just go)... unlikely though.. and I doubt that is your issue because your car would have started with the jump and died a few moments later.

Did you let the bat charge at all off the jumping car, or did you just fire it up right away?

As for starters.. I'm wondering something myself. I checked around and Advanced had the cheapest rebuilt ones at $50. Anyone know if these things are reliable at all? My friend got 3 alt's from them for his accord before he gave up and went elsewhere to find one that worked.

just fired it up off the jump right away. since it stopped raining im gunna go outside and take the battery and starter out then get tested. if both fine then gunna mess with belts and get the alternator off and tested.

well battery and starter are fine, one guy at advanced said i needed to replace the starter because it smelled electrical, took it to another place and the guy said it wasn't the problem and he didnt smell ****.
right now im putting off taking out my alternator, just looked in the book and it looks like a bitch :/

edit: just went out and looked around at the wires(since the pwr wire to my amp coroded off the post D and noticed the ground wire to the starter is all frayed and unwrapped, connecter is also loose) gunna go put everything back in and heat shrink the frayed ground wire and see if it works b4 getting the alt.

new battery in and it does the same thing.
put key in ign
turn to acc everything comes on
turn to start and it just clicks once and everything dies( i can hear the starter trying to start and also a clicking on the inside sounds like its comming from the fuse box)
then its dead for about 20 seconds and everything will come back on in acc again

funny...

but anyways, how much power is your amp pulling? What guage power + ground are you running? Is it more than the alternator can charge? If you aren't sure, just look at the amp and see what fuses it has in it. I can tell you from there.

pour some coke on the corrosion, it'll eat it right off. other than that, fix frayed wires and check all your grounds.

man this post limit is gay ****

i took the starter out and had it tested at 2 diff places, both said it was within params to start the engine, one guy said 'it smelled electrical and should be replaced.
to restate the problem:
turn the key to acc and warning lights all come on with ssr then i turn it to start and it clicks and all the lights die, it stays in acc and the lights slowly come back on and it does the same thing

my car did this, two reasons, corrosion on the negative battery terminal that lead to my alarm arming itself, which then lead to the starter disable relay not functioning and keeping the car from starting. my lights did the SAME thing, to the T. cleaned the terminal, towed the car, got a new alarm put in....working perfect, now.

well my neg terminal wasnt corroded at all
but the + was all coroded even coroded off my amp pwr wire
so im guessing thats it
i can just pull off the terminal and cut the wire and replace the terminal farther back if i have to correct?

pervious owner said he removed all of the alarm except the switches so i dunno what, maybe the relay went bad?
