speedometer not working

a friend of mines 5th gen speedometer isent working what got disconnected. no work has been done to it since it stopped working.....it just randomly shut down

speed sensor may be bad of the cable came unpluged

check the wires in the distrributor. take out the dist. cap and check the wire there see if any are corroded . if so then you have to change that wire...
thats what was wrong with mine...

check the harness on the speed sensor, make sure it is free of all moisture

My 88 lude had the lower part of the speedometer cable break free of the transmission, and then proceed to break the speed sensor. This in turn gave me a check engine light. Hope this may help.
