Default Spark Plugs

Hi, I own a 1995 Honda Prelude VTEC. I think I need to change the spark plugs. When and how often should I change them? What kinda should I buy? Will I notice a difference with the new plugs?

Thanks!

Take them out and inspect them. You can probally use google and search what a bad plug looks like. I just did mine. I used denso, and someof them needed to be gapped right.

Don't buy anything American.....use the dens. or ngks.

I'm not trying to offend anyone patriotic, but our economy is supported by free trade, not by us, as a U.S consumer that purchases something that's going to fail in the long run. We as a U.S citizen are going to benefit within the economy either way....so use what the japs first designed it for.....Longevity, and go with a plug that's marked "Made in Japan."

Remember?......Honda...."Performance first"

If anyone would care to flame me, that's fine.......

Just think really hard about where your Computer, T.V., microwave, toaster oven, Ipod, Cd player, dvd player, cell phone, X-box, sega, etc., have come into play with our technology.

Almost all of the listed above, will have a trace, right back to where the original origin has provided our trust in a comfort of our tech.. Made in Japan....they build it smarter.....we just market it better.

I love my Kenmore washer and dryer...That I've had to replace (3 times).....I wish I could purchase a "Hitachi", "Orion", "Sony", washer and dryer.

I wouldn't have to be pumping quarters into a machine next to someone that's living off of my pay check....while selling drugs, and eating a porter house steak, while I work 70+hrs. a week to support the sorry *** lazy bastards that are driving a Denali smoking up our tax payers money, and living off of us, hard working individuals, morally.

I'm a little on a rant so please forgive me........but it's so ******* true.

All and all, go for the ngk, ngk iridiums...or the densos. If gapped correctly and all is good with your engines performance, they won't let you down.

Ta, ta....

Better read the side of that NGK, it might just say MADE IN USA. Honda OEM = NGK. One cheap JDM NGK = $5.50 over here.

It wouldnt hurt to replace your spark plug wires. And yes auto zone. Just go there tell them your make modle and year and they will read you off a list of whats available.

PZFR6F-11 is the standard platinum plug, so it's a bit expensive. If you want to use the equivalent copper plug pick up a ZFR6F-11.

For a stock car, there is really no benefit to running one step colder. In fact, you should run as hot a plug as you can get away with. One step colder is a 7 heat range, so PZFR7F-11 for platinum, ZFR7F-11 for copper.

I would read the old plugs before I decided to go up or down a heat range, can you explain what one looks like inside for us. Go with NGK Platinium or Iridiums for long term use.

As a minimum, at night time, pull a wire up off of the spark plug until that cylinder dies, move the sire around while it is still down in the plug well and see if you can see spark jumping from the side of the wire, if not really noticable then they should be ok but they are a tune up item and if they have not been changed in a while, then change them. You can also spray them down with a mist of water and see if spark jumps out anywhere along the length of the wire too.

If you're throwing codes and have pistons misfiring before you change them, then you DEFINITELY will. I speak from experience.
NGK FTMFW!

If you change your wires, get NGK's specifically or go to Hond and get wires. Do NOT get other brands from auto stores. I went through several brands on my old Accord, not to mention what my dad went through on his cars. Napa, Duralast, Bosch, etc., none of them are near as good as OEM.

I agree....Bosch is about the closest thing that you'll come to an ngk or denso....there German.... They build great rifles and tanks, but they lack on the automobile stand point...Ta,he,he. look at Dodge, jeep, crys.

I'm sure that I don't just speak for myself, but it's a good thing that the japs didn't figure out splitting the atom first, if so we'd be all in deep ****....They would've made "little boy" and "fat man" the size of a nickle, with the same outcome. I think that right....not sure though...lol

Go with the regular copper NGK's for your car.

They're cheap, pre-gapped, and OEM.

I have used NGK spark plugs for years on my 2nd gen and my current 4th gen, and love them. As to how often to replace them, i change them every 5000k, probably overkill but just my preference.
