Question about Denso spark plugs
I was going to buy denso platinum spark plugs, but rockauto shows 2 different types. I was under the impression that all d16 engines use the same spark plugs. here is a print screen so you can see what I am talking about. Can anyone tell me if there is any differences between these 2 pairs listed in the picture?
My setup is a d16y7 bottom and d16y8 head. if there is any differences which ones am I suppose to use? thanks.

re: Question about Denso spark plugs
Hint: Never buy Denso spark plugs for a Honda.
Hint #2: $2 per plug? Autozone has exactly the plug you need, for less than a dollar a plug.
Hint #3: Rules sticky. It isn't optional reading. Go read it. You've been around to know better.

re: Question about Denso spark plugs
Maybe I miss something, but. I don't see why denso plug is bad for Hondas??? I read my car manual and it noted NGK or denso. I am running denso plugs and wires in my 98 lx civic. I see no issue what so ever..
Most if the time denso are fitted in Toyotas and NGK in hondas . but I see nothing wrong with both in either auto makers.

re: Question about Denso spark plugs
I ran denso irridiums for like 5 years, NA. No probs at all. Swapped for a colder plug when I went turbo, went NGK, still no problems.
Just look up the part#s to find specified diffs from manufacturer's info, not from 3rd party websites.

re: Question about Denso spark plugs
here's something about denso and ngk. Toyota has a large percentage stake in Denso. Almost like ac-delco is to GM. So the scion tc I have you'd think that it would like Denso plugs because it's a Toyota part. Nope. The car ran loud and rough sounded like a loud truck. Took a look at what the Toyota factory put in my car and look at that.. NGK brand! Bought the NGK's, put them in, no more noise, smooth, quiet engine. I learned my lesson about Denso plugs!
Also, I've never had a bad NGK plug, I've even put them in my lawnmower and it ran much better than the Champion brand that was in there.
It's up to you what you buy, but no reason not to listen to all of us, since you did ask our advice.

re: Question about Denso spark plugs
Um..NGK is owned by Denso.. We have a facility here in Michigan.
The part numbers even cross-reference.. I'm very surprised you didn't know this already, my friend
I've run both an IK22 Denso, and a #4555 NGK for over 20 years..never an issue.. In fact, I won't run anything BUT those two companies. I will not run a Bosch or Champion plug.. Ever
Even Ford Racing plugs are Denso/NGK, used in turbo Fiesta and Focus.
Perhaps it was just your personal experience that had crafted your hypothesis?

re: Question about Denso spark plugs
I wasn't aware that they were the same company. And yes, I have never personally had a good experience with Denso plugs, between either of my Hondas, either of my Subarus, or the other Hondas, Acuras, and one SR20 240SX that my friends own. NGK, however, has never, NEVER let me down in any of those cars. On top of that, platinum plugs? Nah, screw that noise. ZFR5F-11, $1.82 through Rock Auto, if you feel like paying for the shipping, or $2.39 picked up from any major parts store.
Now wait, who let you out of your FI cage?

re: Question about Denso spark plugs
literally just solved a rough idle issue in a 00 civic lx by replacing good condition (unknown mileage) denso plugs with oe replacement ngk. civics, and hondas in general have picky ignition systems. i will say that i have used denso wires with no issue. they seem to be of good overall quality. i do prefer ngk wires, due to how long i have seen them last and the convenient numbering. factory wires (96-00) were sumitomo iirc. learn yaselfs: The Temple of VTEC - Honda and Acura Enthusiasts Online - Articles - Got to wonder about Magnecor wires...: NGK vs. OEM Spark Plug Wires

Re: Question about spark Denso spark plugs
Well if you insist, that just changes everything....
No need to be childish...Tell you what. I'm in a sporting mood. I'll do you one better.
They NEVER BOUGHT NGK. They were simply separate divisions of the same corporate entity. From Michigan, hopefully you should know this.
The Denso/NGK Parts book is something that we all had for years. They even use a similar parts number system.
Here's the main NGK / DENSO chart.
DENSO / NGK Direct cross reference list.
Here's also your main chart for NGK

My other Race DENSO spark plugs. You'll note the Cross reference for IK24s in the chart are in fact BKR8EIX Iridium version on Page 3 of the DENSO reference chart I just showed you.
You'll also see that DENSO / NGK ARE THE SAME. Photo was taken a few days back.
Pfft.. Press release.

Re: Question about spark Denso spark plugs
Here is the reasoning behind why I'm laughing a bit about your whole idea of a "press release" in your attempt to try and "call me out," or whatever you guys call it, nowadays..
In addition to the information I just posted, the Japanese company infrastructure is completely different than in the U.S. Only when they started dealing with the U.S. on a regular basis did things like "press releases" get used. Most of the time they were based upon mergers / acquisitions between U.S. and Japanese conglomerates. But it's not a requirement by law to do .
See, NGK (Nippon Tokushu Tōgyō Kabushiki-gaisha) was part of the Kabushiki- Keiretsu in 1936.. (Look up what exactly a Japanese Keiretsu actually is, and you'll see why this infrastructure is different.)
Denso was part of the same Keiretsu as NGK, but was separate division founded in 1949 after WWII.. So, you'll see DENSO as Nippon Densō Kabushiki-Gaisha.
This is why what you're asking by way of a "press release" even doesn't exist.. It is an unanswerable question; because you have two entities of the same Keiretsu working together in the same system. Unlike Microsoft, Japan doesn't utilize Anti-Trust laws in the country of Japan. You can have two companies of the same system split, merge, or change and never know about it. Only when it deals with the U.S., does the FTC and Anti-Trust laws regarding press releases come into play.

Re: Question about spark Denso spark plugs
Interesting information about Denso and NGK. I do like NGK plugs and wires for some of my vehicles, on my 98 I used some Denso wires, NGK plugs and Denso O2 sensors.
Some reason I thought Denso was a division of Toyota.

Re: Question about Denso spark plugs
I agree, Denso is good parts. I did purchase a Y7 IACV from Autozone and it was a Denso in Duralast box with lifetime warranty.
Chrylser using them huh.
