Replacing Rotors
I want to replace my rotors... i know one is warped.. i do have expierence in changing pads.. but i want to make sure i know what all i need to take off for rotors... do i need to take of the center nut.... how hard our these retaining nuts to remove.. what are they phillips head?? any ideas.. or suggestions helps
Changing Rotors is very EASY! Unbolt the whole caliper assembly and make sure to tie the caliper up so it isn't hanging by the brakeline. To take the retaining screws off, use a hand held impact driver with a phillips head or it that doesn't work, use a punch on the outside edge of the screw to loosen it. You can just smack the rotor with something to knock it loose, or you can use a metric bolt, not sure of size and thead it threw the other 2 holes on the rotor and it will act like a press and push the rotor away from the hub.. Take it off and put the new one on. Good luck
And do not touch the large nut in the center, that is the axle nut and as stated above doesn't need to be touched to remove the rotor.
BTW it can be very difficult to get off, you would need a breaker bar and someone to stand on the brakes.

what would happen if those screws are stripped... can i just drill them out... Do you have to have them.. i am just wondering in case something goes wrong
If you strip them, do like what I said before, and use a punch to work the screw loose.. DO NOT USE A REGULAR SCREWDRIVER It will strip! use and impact driver!
ONe side the screws cam out fine.. and the other one had stripped commpletley... I though i was careful.. use wd40 before to help with the rust.. unfortunatley it was the side with the warped rotor.. so i had to get it off.. i drilled the head out... and felt that it would be ok.. i just did not use and screws to hold the rotor on.. well now i get a bad shimmy worse than when it was warped.... do you guys think it was cause of no retaining screws on that side.... I still dont see the use in them. i know alot of cars that the rotor stays loose until the tire and rim is put back on..
You did not have to drill that screw out.. I TOLD YOU TO USE A PUNCH TO LOOSEN IT UP! Put the screws back in, they are there for a reason.. You might just have a wheel out of balance as well. Very noticable if you have larger wheels

If you didn't get the screw all the way out and it is interfering with the seating of the rotor you will cause a major vibration. If you didn't get the screw all the way out go back and finish the job. Then you might as well got o the dealership and get the screws that you destroyed and replace them.
