Default question about an intercooler

I know i may come off as a very dumb individual asking this. but in theory its nothin but good to have a cooler engine for increases in horsepower..so is it possible to install an intercooler on a non-turbo engine for its cooling benefits or is that just a rediculously stupid question?

An intercooler cools down air that's been heated by compressing it. An NA engine doesn't compress the air before going into the engine so it's already ambient temperature. You won't be able to cool it down more than that unless you use a cooling agent like ice or something. So no, it's not going to help you.

what about a liquid to air intercooler on a n/a engine? Wouldn't the ice water cool it more then the amnient temp? I'm just asking for the fun of it, deffinately not considering it, but just wanted to know...

unless you have a short ram where ambient is the hot air inside your engine bay

whats the hottest the air will get around a short ram? IIRC the compressed air coming out the compresser (before it goes through an intercooler) can range between 150* to 250* degrees depending on the compresser efficiency.

hotter than outside, but I'm not saying that you go buy a $1000 intercooler setup because you have a shortram =P

just forget it. waste of money unless you really have a turbo. it won't help you at all if you don't have some serious mods. don't be like a bunch of other people with "interfoolers"...
