problems reading/adjusting TPS
Hello,
I did an H22 swap in my 92 si...when the motor came they took the tps off so it wouldn't get broke. Obviously it needed to be adjusted to .5 volts at closed trottle and 4.5v at WOT. I put it on but couldn't get a reading, so I eyeballed it to where the gasket was pressed in. So the car idles badly, has no acceleration and has a cel for vtec pressure switch. I've heard that the TPS will throw other codes so this is what I think it is.
Since I couldn't get a reading I assumed the TPS was faulty, so I bought another one. Put it in and COULDN'T GET A READING! WTF? But the cel went away and it drove good again. turned the car off and went into a shop and came out started it and the cel is on again, didn't check code, and I have same issues again.
So, searching I've came up with different way to check voltage.
This is what I'm doing:
Key turned to "on"
Pos of Voltmeter is alligator cliped to a metal thumb tack that I've pierced the Yellow/white wire of TPS wireloom with(the tps and the connector is connected)
neg of voltmeter is grounded at body ground(neg terminal of battery)
NO READING
Is this the correct way to check for the TPS voltage?

I'm on my way to work right now, but i'll post up teh sequesnce when I get back if nobody has yet. search and you will find the right wires to connect to, maybe you aren't getting a good connection using the thumb tack/
the positive lead needs to be on the center wire on the connector, the other lead on batt negative...if you still cant get a reading at all, you have an open circuit on the 5volt power wire going to the tps
fyi, you arent supposed to pierce wire insulation...you should be pushing a long needle into the back of the connector till it wont go any farther
