Default Performance question

I have a 93 honda prelude with an h22, and I'm getting ready to rebuild the engine. I have a budget of $1000 to spend on performance parts. What should I do to get maximum horsepower? My ideas are to port and polish the head, get cams, and possibly port and polish my intake. Please let me know what I should do.

You want port and polish head, IM, and cams? I don't thinks 1g is enough money.

i think you should gather some more money and build the bottom end, i.e. sleeves, pistons, rods, and bearings, seals, and gaskets

intake and a nice header

you gonna need atleast about 3k for a head build with head work.

But u need bolt ons before you go into the motor, so my vote is intake and a nice header. FYI, if you are thinking about a DC header.....dont waste your money, stick with the stock header if thats the case.

I dont think that anyone understands my question because i didnt make myself very clear. My car is not stock I have : dc header, apexi world sport 2 exhaust, test pipe, msd sport compact ignition, msd wires, cold air intake. but that just isnt enough ***. i need to feel a horse power increase, and im not turbo or supercharging it (too much money).

I know that pistons change the compression but do they add horsepower. and does anyone know of a website where i can find a aftermarket head or if they even make such a thing.

you are going to go WAY over your 1k limit, hell a port and polish from a reputable place is almost 1k. ANd you cant just drop forged pistons in the block. YOu ahve to get the block sleeved. Plan on about 3k for the bottom end. and about 3k for the head and head work. Then you have to get it tuned...and not Vafc bullshit.

I agree with what the others have said- my head work cost in excess of $3000...

Considering you already have a handfull of bolt on's there, maybe you should consider an aftermarket engine management... You might be able to get a Hondata s200 bought and installed for under $1000- and that should hopefully give you a little extra power.

If you have to pull the motor apart and rebuilt it, I'd say buy some Type S pistons & mill the head a little to get some compression, but thats it, because the rest of the money is going to be spent on seals, rings, bearnigs, gaskets, fluid, etc..

$1000 is almost enough to get a nice homemade turbo setup. Go with that. Sell that DC header garbage.

50-75 shot of nitrous and hondata. End of story.

You aren't going to get much gains with a port and polished head unless you add some sort of engine management. Skunk 2 cams would not be a bad choice... but you want to check to see which stage is going to benifit your current compression ratio. My guess is the stage 1. As far as milling the head goes, I wouldn't do that. See if you can pick up a thinner headgasket instead. And of course... if you go with cams you will also need some sort of engine management.

People who do 'budget builds' are the ones who end up paying 5x as much because they tried to save a few hundred dollars. I've seen this happen PLENTY of times.
