a good gunk and a spray down with some armor all,

gunk and wash the engine and allow it to dry

when engine is dry spray armor all or engine detailer over entire engine, dont be stingy spray it on heavy.

DO NOT WIPE, shut hood and drive car, check it a few hours later, unless its very bad oxidation, your problem will have dissapeared

cover all the dirty parts, except the obvious parts(distributor, plug wires, etc) in engine degreaser and warm up the engine. warming the engine allows the degreaser to penetrate into the dirt and grime. rinse it off after the engine cools a little.
