O2 Sensor Engine Light. Help!!!
I have an H22a and had her running a week ago. The engine light came on and the ECU stated a code: 1 which is the O2 sensor. I replaced the O2 sensor today with a Universal 4 wire sensor, however I'm still getting code: 1 for O2. Has anyone hit this problem? Any suggestions why my ECU is still stating this as a bad O2 sensor? (works fine we tested it in another US-spec 'lude)
Thanks.
Thanks.
did u reset the ecu? try unpluggin the battery negative side and leave it unplugged for about 5-10 mins. that clears all the previous codes from the ecu and if the cel appears again you have a problem.
... Well , you definetly should first consult you Manual.. Reset your ECU then.. if all else fails.. maybe the output for the "universal" isnt so universal
what ECU are you running? If it's the OBD-II there is suppose to be two O2 sensors, and if one is missing (as would be the case with a swap to an older car since they have 1 and you only mention 1 universal) you will keep getting the error. If this is the case, you can get an adaptor peice that plugs onto the 2ndary heated O2 plug and makes it think it's there so you don't get a CEL
Josh,
The o2 sensor code 1 can throw due to a lot of diff reasons. You have verified that the O2 sensor itself is working, so check the wiring/connections and make sure there is no short in the wires between the o2 sensor and the ecu.
The code could be throwing because of a lean/rich situation as well, so check your spark plugs for an indication. I would replace the injectors you have with a known good set and test that to see what happens as well.
When I swapped in my h22a, I was throwing a code 1 for quite a while....I replaced the o2 sensor, got out the multimeter and checked every connection, replaced all the ignition components...and finally I got it fixed by replacing my injectors (JDM ones that came with the swap). I also replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator and fuel filter at the same time, but it was most likely the injectors.
I hope this helps, and good luck diagnosing the problem.

I had this same code on my 2000 Prelude. It turned out that when I was doing some ECU wiring I crimped a wire (O2 wire) when I was putting the ECU back in the car. This wire had gottem crushed under one of the"feet" of the ECU mounting bracket. You might want to check out the ECU area (especially if you've recently messed around down there)

You have to buy a brand new O2 sensor from Honda dealer.
Don't buy any aftermarket O2 sensor from somewhere else.
Single wire O2 sensor, you can use aftermarket.
4-wire O2 sensor, no choice. (Dealer parts ONLY)

? you can get the parts from aftermarket dealers, made by the same company as the one that makes them for honda too... do you think honda actually makes the O2 sensors?
