Default No VTEC

Well, here's the situation, I have already searched so don't flame me on that. Okay, so my wife got a 98 prelude (base model) from her dad and it has I/H/E and a VAFC unit. After I tried it too see how it was, I knew that I didn't hear the VTEC, but then my father in law said that you have to turn on the VAFC unit to activate it. So I was like okay since I didn't recall seeing it on. Now that we had it for about a month now, the car here and there jerks for no reason and still there is no VTEC. So my assumption is that the previous owner tried to program the VAFC unit and messed up everything..Now I'm lost and I've been asking around local shops to see if they can tune it. so now I'm asking you fellow ludes to see what the problem maybe so LMK aite...I'm used to civics and now I'm trying to learn more about the H22s..any help will be thankful and appreciated....thanks for reading the story and sorry for the length of it

Hmmm . . . I'm gonna assume that you've already checked the oil level and the VTEC solenoid. You sure that the VAFC is wired up right?

Well, there could be many things that could be causing the "jerks" so if you could elaborate on the description, that might help us to diagnose it. But yea, check the VAFC, Oil Level, and Solenoid.

My car jerked like I don't know what about a year and a half ago.. It gradually got worse and worse.. Then one day I picked up my sister from school.. And it was jerking really bad that day, but after I cranked it to drive home from picking her up, it was like one of those hotel beds in movies that shake. Seriously, trying to drive that was crazy.. It was like I was flooring it, then slamming on the brakes constantly, my sister was flying forward then slamming back into the seat.. It was like when ya shift gears and don't give it enough gas and it jerks bad, well multiply that by ten and that's what it was like.. People probably thought I couldn't drive worth a flip.. :/

And the whole problem laid inside the Dizzy.. :/ After we checked everything else and my Step-Dad burned up the Starter.. Heh

I'd try taking out the VAFC to see if that cures the problem or even make sure the clip on the solinoid is secure, after working on my car once I had noticed a similar problem only to find out it was a loose wire.
