have a similar problem a quick and not permanent fix is go to like a parking lot and i had to push in clutch try reverse if it didnt work repeat until it finally went in. I tried a lot and it finally went in and rev pretty high and go in revese for awhile put alil gas on it and repeat a few times. Im going to eventually get a new clutch but thats what someone told me would help for awhile

First step- change transmission fluid.

Sometimes I have this problem too. I just put it in 1st and then reverse, that usually works. Or try releasing the clutch pedal, blipping the gas, and try engaging reverse again.

its probably a syncro... this exact thing has happened to me when i let my brother borrow my car... he came back to tell me that there was no reverse... i have to push the car backwards for a reverse for a period of time.. what i did was change out the whole tranny...

I had this happen to me and it was from missing 2nd to 3rd and bending a shift fork....but that was a big 92-95 problem cause they were aluminum....then they went to steel 96 and up i do beleive. rare that it would happen to and older one but just and idea.

noobs. put it into a foward gear (except 5th cuz it has a lock out) for a second then slide it into reverse. the transmission has to stop since reverse is not synchro'd. happens on almost all cars.
