misshifted...
Damn. I shifted from the bottom of third(7200 rpm's) into second instead of 4th. Now major power loss. Idle is fine and I 'm not misfiring. I took the valve cover off and snaped all the springs they all popped back fine. checked valve clearances and they are ok too. But when I nail it from a standing start it feels like there is no VTEC. I can rev all the way to 7200 rpm's but when I shift i fall back to 4000 rpm's. Same thing happens in 2nd gear. Shift and fall to 4000 rpm's. In 3rd gear all is slightly norma.l Car pulls and when I shift I fall to around 5200 but still not as much pull as before. What do y'all think. Tranny??(hopefully) Open to any other tests I should perform I have full shop access

Re: (twistedbydezign)
do a compression and/or leakdown test. that will help you determine if valves are bent without taking the head off. It could have been a lot worse though...

I would say all 8 exhaust valves.
I know of at least 2 other Prelude owners and myself who mis-shifted the same way. And all of us had bent all of the exhaust valves. Intake valves were fine though.

What am I looking for with a compression test??(it's easiest and the quickest so I'll do that first)

Since I don't frequent this board, I haven't seen the pic. But 15 bent valves? That gotta sucks.

Re: misshifted... (vwong)
So I finally got around to compression test. Readings are: 200,190,185,210.
Look ok to me. Does it indicate any problems to any of you. By the way the car IDLES fine and I have no backfiring or missing occuring. Y'all still think it's the valves??

Damn bro it does sound as if you bet valves,
A compression test will tell you in what or how many cylinders..
ive done that once, got away with a blown Vtec pressure switch!!!
Good luck

185 Is a little low, but now too bad, may have a slightly bent valve,
is your check engine light on?
