Default Knock sensor problems

Ok 97 lude code 23. I have done a search in the archives and found nothing relivant.(SP) This car is bone stock with the exception of springs. I have went through the Helms manual and cant figure out how to mimic the Knock sensor. I have checked continuity of the wires and they are fine. and I tested the knock sensor and it does not respond voltage wise. So what I want to know is what does the ECU want to see from the knock sensor noramally. does it want to see a ground or does it want a 5v reference or something? is there a way to trick the ecu to make it think there is a knock sensor there like with a couple of radio shack parts or what have you? thanks for all the help guys!!!

In addition to his question... what is the nominal life span of knock sensors? My wireing is good too, (as is my ecu), but I still but intermittent code 23... This sucks, should I try using someone elses knock sensor? TIA guys...

nobody here has any insight on this?????? I know on a 99Si you can put a resistor of a certain value in there to mimic it and never get a CEL

Try using a 15K resistor. Connect one end of the resistor to GROUND and the other end to the knock sensor input.

Please let me know

This is very crude, so take it with a grain of salt....

I don't know the answer to your question, but...I've hear more than one person say that you can get a knock sensor to trigger by taping the block with a small hammer.

I have no idea if it realy works, but since nobody else is saying anything, I figured I'd throw that out there.
