Issue with ignition getting stuck
Hello all, thank you for reading my post. I have a 1998 Prelude that I am having an issue with. If I turn the key all the way to the 0 mark, the key gets stuck and I am unable to turn it to again without a ton of trouble. My question is do I need to replace the ignition lock cylinder AND the ignition switch? Meaning getting a new computer and everything. Or can I just replace the cylinder itself? Thanks.
I know 5th gens had a ignition recall, may or may not be related. Ive never been in a 5th gen, do the have a key release button? Try wiggling the wheel to see if that helps.
To replace the ignition you have to buy a new one w/key and have a Honda dealership flash the ecu's immobilizer to sync with the new ignition and key.
Or if you're state allows you can go Obd1 which in the long run is better. All thats needed is the ECU and adapter. Which is probably about the same amount of money as having Honda flash you're old one. But if you "need" to pass emissions stay obd2.
Or find a 5th gen for sale for parts on craigslist, get the keys, ignition, ECU, and swap into you're car. Problem solved.
