pick up a helms and it'll describe the processes of building/torquing a motor. VERY useful if you plan on doing this yourself. My questions havent been answered yet..

My H23/Vtec is in a Honda Prelude BB2.

You can check out my build thread here:

Have you checked the knock sensor? Perhaps turn it off in crome?

Also, sounds like maybe you need a better basemap?

Will all of this bolt up mechanically?

I'll be getting some light machining done and i cant wait to get my h22 parts.

starting from a h23.
I would recommend getting yourself a P72 and chipping it with a moates demon and running crome or neptune on it for tuning. You're looking at about 1k worth of bits and pieces there, but lets face it - wouldnt you rather get the most power out of this thing you can?

Your parts list will bolt up mechanically no problem.

well i'm only half way through this thread and i must say there is some very useful information on here thus far! also there is some bloody idiots who shouldnt even be thinking about doing this conversion!
anyway just about to start my little build, i will be using h23 block with all the oil squirters fitted (the only reason i am using the h23 block is because i want peeps to know i'm running a h23vtec ) mahle gold 11.5-1, shot peened, h23 rods built head with stage 3 cams, ITBs (last bit of the jigsaw to get), acl or oem bearings. no balance shafts, all the bottom end including the JUN flywheel and UR pulley will be getting balanced dynamically .

i WILL be revving this to 7.5k-8k as its my weekend track toy so if it goes pop, meh!

The reason i am going h23vtec you ask? compression ratio, 0.1ltr, low down torque, because is something differant!

opinions?

cheers

phil

I don't know if I should mention it here ... I'm doing the conversion on my H2B EG too.

I'm using the H22 block and head, TWM 52mm ITBs, H23 crank and rods with H22 Type-S pistons. My block is already converted to the H23 tensioner and the balance shafts are removed for fitment into the EG.

I figure it should be as simple as swapping the rotating assembly, bending the oil squirters and leaving everything else in place.

I might have the Type-S pistons fly cut to clearance the valves for bigger cams as well.

I already have all the major parts, I just have to pick up the gaskets, rings, bearings, etc. over the winter.

Are you planning to use The Mahle H22 pistons? If so, you are going to end with rather high compression, almost 13:1, so you better be claying it, and tuning very well.

This will be awful fun with such a light car and H2B!

This motor is tired, been in my 'lude since 03, I figure it's time to freshen it up with some new rings anyway, might as well drop an H23 crank while I'm at it.

oh yes, she'll be tuned by one of if not the best tuners in the country. still a little nervous of the valve clearances though
