Default How does the VAFC work?

I want to get a VAFC, but im not very knowledgable about them. I know their a Vtec controller and they work kind of like a boost controller. Do you get more power out of them and if so how many horses can you get out of them? Are they a real good investment?
Thanks
Peace

they are not a boost controller, V-AFC stand for VTEC air fuel converter, basically that means you can adjust you fuel curves for better performance

yup, and IIRC you'll see gains of approximately 3-5 WHP acroos the RPM range +/- a few HP depending on what other mods you have done.

it alter the signals between the ecu and sensor to adjust fuel a preset percentage, it also changes the engage and dis. rpm of the vtec. this can be helpful when tuning on a dyno. just installing it will net 0 gain. you need to have it tuned on a dyno by a reputable shop in order to see a gain. but you will see a gain. how much depends on how much more or less fuel your car needs and whether your engaging too early/late.

i heard that you can get as much as 25WHP if correctly tuned. not just 3-5WHP. the more mods you have, the better the V-AFC will work for you.

i've seen over 20whp on a vafc alone.
the more hp you're making, usually the better gain you get.
i always see at least 5whp move around because of a properly tuned vtec point.

i have a d17a1 to a2 swap but i dont have a vtec ecu or anything like that. i’m not wanting to go through all that trouble, so im theory id be able to buy a vfac and hook it up and call it good after setting it? i’m not looking for hp gains just for vtec to kick in and shut offf.

No, no, no... using a VAFC for VTEC operation is no better than flipping a switch in the cockpit for VTEC engagement. Just because you can turn the solenoid on doesn't mean that the fuel needed or proper ignition timing are present. Buy an A2 ECU and do it right.
