How do you do a compression test?
okay np. Remove plug wire of one cylinder. Remove the spark plug. Install the guage in the spark plug port. Have a friend turn over the car for 3-4 clicks/cranks as you hold the guage. Your guage should jump and hold at peak pressure if its a good gage after the 3-4 cranks. Pull out guage, reinstall spark plug, add boot, and repeat on to next cylinders.

before you start you need to remove the ECU fuses from the fuse box inside the car so your injectors dont spray any fuel in the combustion chamber.
Its also recommended to remove all the spark plugs before you start so the engine doesnt have to work around itself.
Would 3 cranks flood the cylinder you think? Or whats your worry about fuel spraying in the combustion chamber?
The removing all spark plugs isn't a bad idea. I don't see that being anything manditory though?? or would not doing that alter the readings?

Well....the ECU fuses also control the spark plugs......fuel....spark plugs.....makes motor run....
You dont want your car running on 3 cylinders while your doing a compression test....
You remove all of the spark plugs so there is no resistance against the starter. The starter doesnt have to compress air in the chamber. Its just free flowing. It wont alter the readings....but it just makes things easier.

ten seconds people, not 3-4 cranks. Disconnect your fuel injectors when you do it too!
It goes like this 10 seconds of cranking. 3 times on each cylinder, take the median reading.

Bit off topic, but kinda related.... (sorry to thread jack meanshyguy)
What is a leak down test, and how is it performed??
I had a compression check done on my Euro R when I bought it and they did a leak down at the same time, so would it be advisable for this to be done at the same time??

remove the 15A fuel pump fuse, remove ALL spark plug wires then ALL spark plugs. connect compression tester and get into car. press in clutch, press throttle down all the way and let crank. if you have a freind helping then can tell you when the gauge maxes out. repeat on the other 3 cylinders.
with 10:1 compression my car had consistant readings between 220 and 225 PSI. this is a motor with only about 1500 miles and all gauges will read slightly differently. the numbers being relitively close is what is important.
