Honda Challenge Race Preport from that other not as fast Prelude
It's not a super fast H1 prelude, but it's still a prelude ...in H3.
This was my 1st race of the 2007 season! Several new parts were installed before this race: MFactory oil cooler kit, Koyo radiator, Hondata S300 system, Kaaz LSD, and a set of 245/45-16 tires. We had lots of questions that got answered by the end of the weekend. Is the Kaaz clutch type LSD better than the Quaife gear type LSD that we used last year? Are 245/46-16’s faster than 225/45/15’s? Will the 245/45-16 tires rub the wheel well in tight turns? How much will the new oil cooler help with oil temps? Does our Honda Data S300 fuel map need any adjusting?

You can fit 245/45/16s on the Prelude, but there will be some rubbing issues on the front and you'll need to roll the fender lip in the rear. A friend of mine who runs a 5Gen in HC has tried 245/45/16s, but you can only use a 7" wide wheel in that class, so the tire is fairly pinched on the rim.

yes, back and front. On 7" wide wheel, which is the max width we can use in HC. It does not rub when on track, but it might rub with tight parking lot turns. I had to roll all 4 fenders, and I'm running -2.5 to -3 deg. camber which helps with rubbing also.

The Mfactory cooler is an external air to oil cooler that you mount in front of your radiator. If you want some pictures of it installed I can take a few.

Thanks for posting, it looks like a lot of fun.

This is interesting info. By "no oil cooler" do you mean it had the stock h22 oil cooler under the oil filter, or it really had no oil cooler at all? Where were the temperature sensors for the oil and water?

Re: Honda Challenge Race Preport from that other not as fast Prelude (flyrod)
it was all OEM, with OEM oil cooler/heater installed. In fact I still have it installed, never took it out. It helps heat the oil up faster on a cool day.
(in both cases) The Oil temp was taken from a port just before the oil goes into the oil filter. The water temp is taken from a line that goes from the block to the IM. Well, it uesed to go to the IM, now it just loops back to the block.

Wow, looks like the oil cooler and radiator made a big difference.
Do you remember what kind of oil pressure you were getting at WOT when your oil temps were hitting 265?

75 PSI from about 3K RMP and up.
I still get 75 PSI from about 3K RMP and up with the kit.

Yes, I can get any of their parts cheaper than they have them listed on the site. The more parts you need the cheaper I can get it Shoot me a PM when you are ready to order and what parts you need and I can get you a total price.
As for more parts, I talked them in to making us a 5.2FD that is going to make our cars feel like they just gained 50hp vs the stock FD. They should have them in stock real soon. I will keep bugging them for more parts i'm sure.

Hi Walt! I missed this thread the first time around.
I'm hoping to see some improvement with 235/40 R17 tires, especially at the end of a race when my 225/45 R15's are begging for mercy. We'll see. I've got different gearing than you, and a different torque curve. I'll have both sets at Grattan this weekend, we'll see if I can get the rubbing issues taken care of sunday AM and run them during qual/race. Of course, I don't have the 7" wheel restriction so I might get more benefit from wider tires.
Interesting to hear that you didn't like the Kaaz more than the Quaife. I've never used the Quaife, closest I've used is my stock ITR one, and I like the Kaaz better than that for sure.
See you in a few weeks (H-to-the-izzle Fizzest)

As a side note, I'd run oil temps over 300F all day on my turbo ITR, and run the oil for 2-3 weekends, and never had any oiling issues.
I have no idea what they are on my H, but I know the water temps have been high, so I'm running a Koyo rad too.

Last but not least, you need to fire your photographer. Your car is way shinier than mine. (Or maybe buy your photog a new camera, if "firing" isn't an option!)

Wow, that seems pretty good. I just signed up for my first track event, and was wondering what type of blazing hot oil temps I may experience since I'll be running in early Sept. I don't have a oil temp gauge, so I was wondering what type of oil pressure hit I would take. I'll be happy if I stay above 75psi at WOT.
Goodluck to you and Chris for the rest of the season.

Those are great results despite being bumped off the track. It would have been cool if you tangled with that 'teg for round 2 though. Those oil temps look reeealy niiiice!
