Default Hid

i'm thinking about getting a Phillips, or Catz HID set for my 00' prelude. I have no idea about these systems or how they work. Do you need seperate kits for high and low beams? also which do you recommend 4300k or 6000k. If at all possible please include pics.

I would recommend 6000k thats what I have and I love them, you would have to have two sep. kits for the low and high

hope this helps. you don't really need a highbeam set, your old ones should work fine but they ain't bright as the hid lowbeams. unless you really care about the looks of your high beam. if so, good luck on finding a place for the ballasts.

i would never ever buy 6000K in my life.. if you want the OEM HID look, get 4300K, yeah up close, it will just be bright white, but drivin around the ground will be nice and bright white.. and to others, it will look OEM.

6000K will make the ground purple and to others it will be so purplish blue that it wont even look like OEM HID.. HID has gone rice..

4300K HID = 3200 lumens
6000K HID = 2400 lumens and below.

what's wrong with the purplish look? it looks kind of aggressive. i disagree with H.I.D. as rice.

From what I've seen, BMW factory HID has a purplish tint as well as Audi. I don't agree that its just rice now

since we are on teh topic of hid's, isnt there also the problem of blinding oncoming traffic? when you get HID, dont you need a special reflector to prevent the whole blind thing? im also thinking of getting them but i wanna stay legal and i dont wanna dump a couple hundred bucks into a lite set up that teh cops will tell me are blinding. what needs to be done if anything?

i didn't get anything done to prevent oncoming traffic, but A LOT of cops have seen me with them but haven't said anything. i guess it really just has to do with the cops. most won't hassle u about it but some will

please dont be mislead by these last few posts.. 6000K is a lot dimmer than 4300K,

7000, 8000, 9000 all those kits are just ricey blue tinted bulbs and are a waste of money..

lol..either way, they're a waste of money.. why would you buy HID for the looks? you have just about the same light output with 7000K as you would with silverstar bulbs.. and they only cost $40 - $50

ok ill let my girlfriend type here for me: i bought al those silverstars as a gift in the past, they dont even anywhere compare to HID's. he has the REAL hella hid kits from germany. (ballasts) and all. those silverstars, luckily auto zone took them back, believe me, his lights are better and brighter still then even new TL, CL, BMW, AUDI, and PORsche! they are not rice, and are not BLUE. our prelude + tegra look "luxury" not rice. whats your email, we will send pix! damn... no bulb compares to 25,000 volt @ 35 watt draw!

Agreed. I like either bright white or OEM BMW look like nice.....the rest are rice.
I just never understood why people have to do ANYTHING to attract attention to themselves. Did their moms and dads not pay enough attention to them while they were a child??
Sad to see the car modding scene turning into a small weenie contest.

Sigh, MTK Commander, the newbies are killing you.

If you look at cars with OE HID lights from far away they do appear to have a little purplish tint but the output on the ground is pure white. The 4300K kits will do this for you. Give you the MOST amount of Usuable White Light.

The 6000k+ kits appear purple from far away, and they output more purple than white on the ground also. If you want to attract cops, ricers, and what not then go with the purple systems, just remember you're not getting your money's worth if you get those, unless blinging is what you like.

they're killing themselves.. they know nothing about HID and they're going by numbers.. "oh 8000 is higher than 4000 so its brighter.." silly people..

MTK... are you getting a little like I am?

I just went through this discussion with this guy over on the BMW board.

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...0&pagenumber=3

http://www.intellexual.net/hid.htm

There are many companies and private merchants out there that will advertise 7000K, 8000K, and even 12000K HID kits. Most of these vendors lurk around on e-bay, online car forums, websites, and ricer accessory shops. 100% of the people that buy these kits do so because they are uninformed, uneducated, or misguided in the field of lighting, and will buy these junk kits thinking two things: that these bulbs are brighter and/or that they will perform better. These are both untrue. Perhaps this misconception and frenzy for purple lights originates from BMW and Audi's infamous projector HIDs.

So here's the *real* low down... Philips is the number one manufacturer of HID bulbs. The Philips OEM D2S bulb is rated at 4100K at 12.8 volts and produces 3200 lumens of light. The Philips Ultinon D2S is 5800K at 12.8 volts and produces 2400 lumens of light. As you can see, with all other factors remaining constant, the brightness of an HID bulb declines the higher up the color index you go. Vision, a Korean bulb manufacturer, makes an 8000K bulb, which they used to advertise on Acura-Forums as 2000 lumens bright. This is barely a marked improvement over halogens, and will produce more glare and eye fatigue than it is beneficial. 4100K has been proven through tireless independant research by the Germans and Japanese to be the most functional, truest white and thus the brightest possible color temperature (ceteris paribus).

Every car manufacturer in the world (including BMW and Audi) uses none other than a standard 4100K gas-discharge bulb. The reason being is that 4100K is daylight white in color and produces the same color visible light as direct sunlight. This is least fatiguing functional color on the eyes and produces the most comfortable contrast on the road.
Skafia, did you look at your lights from different angles or reflect it off a different wall?

And don't get me started on Misterjung. You shold see the horror stories on other forums. Why do you think o many of his kits are all over the FS sections of car forums. Good ballast (Philips), but crappy bulb. Keep in mind that just because someone claims a "Philips Kit" does not necessarily mean it comprises entirely of Philips components. Philips, Osram, and Matsushita do not make kits. But companies like Catz and McCullogh DO. And they use QUALITY parts such as bulbs with molded bases, not machined and glued adapters.
