Default help with AC!

did a little bit of searching, but could not come up with anything, here is my dilemma.

when i turn on the AC it's not cold at all, at any time, and i bought an AC recharge kit. However when i plug it onto the low end, it says my pressure is over 200 and it's not because it's low on freon

Thanks in advance

those do it yourself recharge kits don't always work. But assuming it does work. Very often on the 4th gens the climate control will sart to fail. When you push the AC button it doesn't always activate the AC. Try hitting the climate control with the AC on a few times. Hard enough but not so hard you will break anything. See if that helps make the system turn on. If it does.... your climate control is the problem rather than the actual AC system.

if you are really low on freon then the clutch on the ac compressor won't kick on resulting in the gauges going crazy like you said. the reason is because ac systems have a low pressure switch so that when the freon gets below a certain level it will shut down the compressor so that the compressor doesnt burn itself up (freon also has an oil mixed with it) saving you a few hundred bucks for a compressor.

if you want to put freon in then you need to jump the low pressure switch with a paper clip so the compressor comes on and draws freon into the system.

a few other things:
if you are that low on freon then you have to have a leak somewhere. freon just doesn't dissipate into nothing. so find and fix the leak first.

after you fix the leak (if you have one) then you need to suck the air out with a vacuum pump (so the air doesn't mix with the freon and condensate inside the ac lines) which you can get from a parts store.

hth,
David
