Default help

I have a 97 lude with 105k. I been loosing a lot of oil however i dont have any leaks and theres no smoke coming out of my tail pipe (some times when i hit vtech). I took it to honda twice they dont know what the problem is, but i also think that they didnt take the engine apart yet. Does any body have an idea on what the problem might be. i also want to know when is the righ time to check the oil in the engine, is it when the engine is hot or cold.

PS i lose about a quart every 300 miles

Sounds like the piston rings are bad.

I would recommend you change the headgasket and get new piston rings.

1. check compression in cylinders. that will tell you in piston rings are bad. you should have an even compression through out cylinders
2. check for coolant in oil or vice versa. if either is present where they shouldn't be you have a bad headgasket.
3. check for oil on spark plugs. there are spark plug grommets that keep oil from reaching the plugs.

if you took it to honda, they should have checked the things listed above. there are probably some other things that you could check that i missed. so if you know of any other help him (and me) out.

I am not a huge fan of the compression test. I favor the cylinder leakdown test, which is far more accurate. As stated before, your rings are probably going bad. Im curious, what weight oil are you using? When you do put your engine under load, it's regular to consume more oil especially in VTECH, as you stated earlier.
