Hello Neone From England on Here? Vtec Problems!!!!
hi i live in the UK and have recently bought a 2.2 prelude vtec i had i on the rolling road and it only came out at 155bhp and an uprated air filter and a 4,2,1 exhaust system! i was abit put back buy the bhp figure as i belive they are supposed to run 186bhp as standard! or so i have been told!
is there neone that knows of any honda specialists that i could take my car to in the uk! the bloke who rolling roaded the car for me said it was as if the car was backing off the power wen it was hiting the Vtec range?
i am in the south west so the nearer the better!
cheers

well bro, im from the good ol' USA, but i just had problems with my vtec on my lude, and im pretty sure that i fixed it by just flipping my pin under my vtec solenoid, i can't really help you, there could be many things causing that.
im in England, North east though lol.
Do you get your CEL (Check Engine Light) light up o your dash? What year is the car? milage? do you change your oil & filter regularly?
What fuel do you run the car on? 98 octane?

Well, while I am a bit of an anglo-phile, and certainly one who is familiar with the vernacular of the Continent, I don't understand what "rolling road" means. Is that the same thing as a dynamometer, i.e a device that measures the output of a vehicle at the wheels?
If you're getting low readings, that's because there is a 10-15% loss in HP measured from the crank to the wheels. This is due to frictional losses in the transmission and tires. If you did get 155 WHP (wheel horsepower), then I'd venture to say that your car is making roughly the same amount of power as it did stock (182 HP at 15% efficiency loss).

how is 182HP and 200 horsepower the same? The H22A prelude should dyno anywhere from 168 to 172 at the wheels. Something is amiss here in his car.

Don't forget it will only make 200ps on 100ron petrol. And not on uk 95-98 ron fuel.
It might also be a ukdm car in that case 186bhp would be about right.
What type of air filter are you using as that may effect the power output ie. drawing in hot air from the engine bay as opposed to cool air from outside.

Mine lives on 105 octane =P
Im guessing he is using standard fuel ad doesnt change his oils as often as he should!
As for the power figures, the uk book figure is 190bhp (brake horse power) which is supposed to mean at the wheels.
And btw: A rolling road is a Dynomometer

I own a JDM spec prelude and have seen many preludes on the rollers here in the UK.
In my experience, a stock prelude VTEC will make around 155-160 whp which equates to around 180 BHP at the flywheel. It does not seem to matter if its JDM spec or UKDM spec. I know that honda spec the JDM Prelude at 200 PS (196 BHP)
Just compare it to the Civic Type-R. Honda claim that this car will put out 200 PS but there has never been a Stock Civic, rolling road tested in the UK that will put out more than 185 BHP at the flywheel.
We use the same kit as you guys in America. The SUN RAM 12 Dyno is the most popular as used by race engine builders throughout the UK.
