vtec is busted
Just started working on my EF that has been sitting outside for about a year. Has a b16a1. Starts and moves but....
Vtec is not engaging, checked the solenoid its fine. Oil level is up and the temp gauge is showing hot when i am trying to get it to kick. Not sure where to go from here. Yes I've searched but haven't found anything that is of any use
Also, when it starts it idles at about 3-4k then tapers to around 1500. Checked all the vacuum lines, they're in good shape????
Any and all informed help is fantastic

I would check the vtec noid filter.. Also you can hook a small light up to the vtec noid and run it inside the cabin to make sure that the ecu is actually turning on the vtec..
yeah i'd go along with that too...if the motor has been lying for a year then the gauze filter in the solenoid is possibly clogged with sludgey oil and would need replacing or cleaning before trying anything else
Well the filter is fine. If i remember correctly you need to read proper oil pressure for it to engage. So i guess swap out that sensor. Is there anything else that would cause it not to work aside from a bad ECU. Possibly some kind of RPM sensor. Ive been out of the game for a while now and my previous knowledge seems to be failing me.
Thanks again
Thanks again
