H22 trans help!!!
i own a 94 prelude with the original H22 (USDM). Just recently my third and fourth gear synchronizers started grinding. I've spoken with a few local shops and I've determined that I'd rather replace the trans than break mine down and replace the parts. I've ran into some problems though. In or around my home town i cant find anything but a trans for the H23 motor. It wasnt very expensive so i thought i'd ask. My question is will this trans mount up to my motor? If so what is the difference in the gear ratio? Also will the H23 trans restrict me or benefit me, that is if it will even bolt up? I want to the right thing and not risk damage to the car or loss in the performance areas. ANY info would be great. Thanks alot.
Sorry i don't have experience as i am also new to the almighty prelude motor but here is helpful link for u: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=549372
i have an JDM H22 engine with a USDM H23 tranny....... i like it a lot.....
the main diff you will feel is 2nd to 3rd.... 2nd gear is noticably longer...... you will loose a bit of performance if you are launching... hitting it hard from a roll is a blast....

I disagree. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 92blkJDMh22 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i have an JDM H22 engine with a USDM H23 tranny....... i like it a lot.....

How is this possible when the 94 H22 and H23 have the same first gear ratio's
I have always been a fan of H23 tranny with an H22 from NA to N20 and also Turbo. The gearing in the H23 are not to short like the H22 and not to long like the F22. Just my 2cents I am sure you guys know more about performance then I do.

Syncronizers are very easy to replace. In fact doing any work on a manual transaxle is easy. If I were you i'd just fix the transaxle you have now. If youre not a mechanic or mechanically inclined just have someone rebuild it. A freshly rebuilt transaxle is much better than a used one, not to mention the shop who does the overhaul is most likely going to offer a warranty too.
