F, H, Trans onto H22
Alright so I had to replace my clutch this week and am going to be sending my stock transmission out to be rebuilt and have an LSD put in. I was thinking of throwing an F22 or H23 trans onto my H22. Its a 1998 Prelude if that helps ans what year other trans will work. I was thinking it will help out with fuel since I sit around 3500 rpms cruzing at 75mph any insight would be helpful thanks

You can put an f series transmission on your 98 but let me tell you from personal experience if your car isn't boosted the gears are just way to long it falls out of vtec in 3rd gear and i honestly didn't see that much of a mpg improvement if you don't want to kick yourself in the back of the head i would just stick with your h22 transmission!

you'll definitely see a small bump in mpg with the longer geared f22 or h23 transmission. some people even put 3rd and 5th gears into their h22 transmission to make it a tad longer than stock. Either one will fit while you get your h22 tranny rebuilt.

ALL FWD F series trans are junk.......sans F20B trans IIRC same gearing as usdm 5th gen m2y4
The H23 gearing isn't much different....so either way. People are soooo dramatic about this.
My friend threw an (IIRC) F23 5th in his H22 trans......
Or you could find a JDM 5th gear. I get over 30mpg's HWY w/o having a ****-poor F series trans'd powerband

Ya, I have a tune on basicly a stock motor, if I go over 75mph it gets horrible fuel economy so I hate having to find places I can drive slower to keep the rpms low... At or above 75mph I get something like 17 to 20 mpg its kind of sad

Not really, it is alittle rich but its pushing 180 with just an intake and axle back greddy exhaust and tuned... I dont know I think ill just throw my stock trans back in and just have it rebuilt when I throw my built motor in.

I launch at every light just about, drive fast all the time.. stop and go And I get an average of 33 mpg with mine. M2B4 tranny... of course, it's in a civic but still....
I also have a tranny I got with the car, from an accord can't remember what one.... But it has LONGG gears and I didn't see any diff in mpg between the two..

Re: F, H, Trans onto H22
I do agree i got quite a bit better gas mileage but i just hated the over all gearing i felt like it just took all the fun out of the car compared to the closer ratio transmission. I never really care about gas mileage in the prelude. 3rd gear in a f trans is like oh will i ever get to the top.....almost there....

I dont really care about this motor, like I said I have a compleatly built block getting ready to go in.. I just want to drive it alittle and have some fun, Im pretty sure I have some FRM problems but I cant complain Im only into this car like 2k bucks including the car.
So onto something I noticed last night, on the top of the oil pan where the rear main sits on. Theres a curved part that it looks like it has some kind of black gasket... Im use to building Bseries and just honda bonding the the rear main and move on from there. On the H series it has that gasket part it dosent run the whole way accross the rear main just on that curved part... Is that suppose to be there or is it something else? Rear main while the engine sucks when your 6'3

[QUOTE=NirVTEC;45908144]C'mon, you're exaggerating......
Deff not. I used a mpg calculator on an app for a couple months and it was over 30 every fill-up

Re: F, H, Trans onto H22
I had a H22 trans and F22 trans put together. Basically H22 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and F series final drive and 5th gear.... best of both worlds....nice short 1st-4th and a good gas mileage 5th.... The f series 5th gear had to machined down slightly to fit but once it was was done it made such a huge differnce to keep me in the power band with my f series!

Re: F, H, Trans onto H22
i have an f22 tranny on my h23a1 in my lude , i like it better than the h23 tranny cause i can cruze on the highway under 3000rpms.
accord trannys are so much easier to find than prelude trannys i found 1 at a juckyard for 75 bucks with a 90 day warranty and it shifts great no grinds whatsoever

^Yeah but someone with the same engine will easily pull away from you since you're using that trans, I'd rather have the acceleration.
