gauge problems wont allow redline and partial vtec engagement
hi, i recently purchased a 2001 prelude of my freind, and i realized that it had some problems. I know there is a link, or atleast im hoping there is a link, but my car wont redline at 7500, and instead it redlines at 6000, acting as if it hits a revmeter and just stalls there. the thing is its not only the tach, but the engine wont go any further after 6000 rpm. I was wondering what the problem is? if anyone has an answer or a similar problem any info will be welcome. Is the engine fucked up or something, or do i only need to fix my tach? .... i mean the car sounds fine until it hits 6000rpm. My freind has a stock prelude, just like me but hes redlining it all the way to the redzone 7500... so i cant make the connection why mine shouldnt either.... ><

You're in limp mode. Limp mode gives you lowered redline and no VTEC. Are you waiting for the car to heat up all the way? Are you getting any CELs?

the thing is, im a noob, and i dont think im in limp mode. My freind, when he had the car, fucked around with the gauges and he said something is broken in there. But what i want to know is, does it have any connection with why i wont redline at 7500? or can there be an engine problem to it?

Why don't you think you're in limp mode? It wouldn't make sense to just be a gauge problem, unless the gauges were somehow recalibrated.
Do you have a CEL?
Do you have a CEL?

Re: (draxxus07)
yea, i tihnk thats what my freind was trying to do, but instead he fucked it up. Personally, i dont like the indiglos, and he put back the stockies, but now my gauge is fucked up... Moving onto something more important though, does your car feel like accelerating after .... 68000 ? cause mine feels like the tach is actually stopping the engine from moving onto ... redlining at 75000. At first i thoguht it was reading it wrong, but thats not the case.
