engine surging after i clean throttle body..any ideas?
Okay so today i was cleaning my throttle body and when i finish up i started up my 92 prelude H23 and it was surging from 500 to about 2 grand. i checked all my lines and everything. i also disconnected the battery to reset the computer and that did nothing. i also took off the idle control on the intake mani and tried to clean that, but after putting it back my car still was surging. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is doing this.
Thank you,
CJ

Cleaning throtle body how?
Surging idle thread can be found in the search function and it has all the possible reasons for surging Idle. I'd start there if I were you.
I would say vacuum leak off the top of my head.

I was just cleaning it. i took off the throttle body and cleaned all the build up on it. there is a pretty new gasket on the throttle/mani to.

should do me a favor and prolly you one. try this. take off the plug on the tps and then see if it still does it? im having that same problem if yours starts acting right, after u take that off we can both figure it out together.
mine also started when i took off my TB.

well i took off the TPS and it made it stop, i put the plug back on and it still was not surging..but my check engine light turned on so i turned off the engine and the light turned off and then the surging started again. I also went to a junk yard and pulled off the Idle controle valve on i think a 92 accord and i put that one on my car and it still was surging. weird stuff! ANY IDEAS? ANYONE!!!??!!?!???!?!??!!!!????

alright. well i figured out my problem today. all i did was loosened the screws on the tps and i rotated it like 1/4 of a inch and it fixed it. but urs is probably riveted in so yours probably didnt move so that wouldn't be your problem.
you could do the volt test on the tps. it might be that.

I'm going to do idle control valve first and see if that fixes it.

don't listen to honda stealerships. They try to fix your car by throwing parts at it, rather than figuring out whats really causing the problems. Your guess is likely just as good as theirs but with H-T here I would say if you use H-T to its full potential, our guess is better than theirs any day of the week

I am also having the surging problem for quite a while and have cleaned/replaced several things. I have also been watching the other threads about surging idle (FITV and IAC issues) which did not work for me. I did come across an article about a common manufacturing defect on the Honda Accords EFI relay. I will try this on my Prelude but not too hopeful since it was common to Accords.
Here is the link to that which is a step by step repair with pics if anyone is interested.

Good luck everyone and if there are other ideas please post
