Engine clicks during low end acceleration
When I accelerate while at like 2-3k my engine makes some like clicking/ticking/clanking noises. Since I shift at about 3k most the time, i hear this noise when it drops down to around 2k and go to accelerate again. It seems to have gotten worse in the past few months. This might not have been very detailed but it's about all i can do to describe it. Any idea what it is? I have a 93 Si 4WS with the stock h23.

It's the engine. I don't have a heat shield. It makes the clicking slightly when idling as well but gets louder when accelerating at low rpms.

Re: Engine clicks during low end acceleration (snowblind7x)
The engine is prolly detonating (knock), try backing off the ignition advance (long way of saying retard......!)a bit.....

Agreed. Could be pre-det. Could also be valves, so are you running premium? never run less than 89 with fuel treatment. 93s better though. Also but unlikely is your crank messing up. Honda cranks are pretty bulletproof though.

This may seem like it has nothing to do with your question but do you have an aftermarket header?

Re: (Rudelude22)
I have a rattle at start up, and 1k-3k rpms in every gear. Don't know what it is, done the usual valve adjustment twice, timing checked and rechecked. Pulled off the whole exhaust checked for loose heatsheilds, and nothing. REplaced all exhaust gaskets.
I don't know, but the car still runs like a dream and no metal flakes in the oil. So I just let it warm up for 5 minutes every morning. and turn up the tunes.

Re: (AzCivic1.6)
i had the EXACT same problem. i take it that it sounds very "harleyish" at low rpm? i could have sworn it was coming from the valve cover but it wasn't. i had a gasket leak from where the top part of header joined the down pipe. do this:
start the car and before it warms up take your hand and go from the very top part of the header and go all the way down to past your cat. check all sides of the pipes. if you feel a lot of air anywhere, you have a leak and it will make that sound. be very thorough about it. if yours is that loud, more than likely you'll definitely feel it.
