Default Loud knocking noise from swapped engine on crank.

Hi everyone, my 2000 civic ex's old engine blew so i bought a new engine and put it into the car. When I try to crank it, I hear a loud knocking noise from the engine each time it turns with each crank. I do not have the distributor connected so that I dont turn on the engine while cranking. Also, my IACV is giving me problems. It makes my check engine light flash very fast and I can hear and feel the IACV clicking. When i disconnect the plug from the IACV, I hear my fuel pump prime (before disconnecting it doesnt prime) and no more clicking or constant check engine light. This is worrying me because I just spent so long trying to get this engine into my car, I have no idea whats wrong. Is it possible my timing isn't correct and thats why the engine makes the loud knocking noise when cranking? What do you guys think about the problems I'm having? I can provide more information if my post isn't detailed enough and I can also provide a video of how the engine sounds when I try cranking it.

Also, can anyone tell me if manually turning the crank messes with the timing? My friends did it while we had the engine out just to see how it would feel like and I would like to know if I can call them dumbasses yet.

Check the timing marks on the crank and cam pulleys. Check that the sheet metal flywheel cover on the bottom isn't hitting the flywheel. Are you sure this new engine is good?

The lights blinking etc is probably because the ECU ground wires on the thermostat are not secure. Or another grounding problem. The wire from battery (-) has to be connected to both the frame and the transmission.

I checked the thermostat ground - completely forgot to connect it, that fixed my IACV. Im still having issues with the engien however. I bought this engine from a junkyard and they said it was running when it got into the accident, theres no symptoms of any collision doing damage to engine. It also only has 100k miles on it. I will check the lines on the pulley and cam wheel later. Keep in mind also that this is my first time doing an engine swap or really any sort of big job on my car.
