Default Door problem?

My drivers side door will not open. power lock i can hear disengage. pulled off door panel down to point where i couldnt anymore due to door trim and a screw being where i couldnt get to it. All the rods are in place and working it ould seem just the latch wont disengage. 94 Prelude. was told to drill out the new one and put in a new one. I have a 95 civic lock assembly, looks similar?? anyone know if i can use the civic latcha nd lock assembly in my 'lude?

i doubt it's your issue and i know i'm not answering your question, but this may not fix your problem. the latch cam may be broken. i hope this isn't your problem, but i've seen where they had to cut doors off with a torch because of this

Not sure on the civic latch but drilling it out isn't too hard. You should be able to get that door panel off without too much damage. I did one for a customer a few years ago.

door was a biotch to fix . I annihilated the old lock using a dremel, a drill, a few screwdrivers,2 punches, and a torch.

I have similar issue with my son's 92 lude - passenger door will not open. A couple of Honda dealers indicate that I need a new door lock assembly. A pretty expensive component - 250.00 before labor charges. Looking at my alternatives now. Can I use a door lock assembly from a civic? How difficult is it to replace one of these?
Thanks

No, It has to be that part. Look around on your local craigslist for a parts car. Passnger side? If you pay shipping and for the part I might be able to get you the one off the same car i ripped from i got mine for $30 in KCMO. Thats what hond dealers told me too. It IS A BITCH TO REPLACE. You have to drill out a little latch piece but I couldnt find a dril with enough stability so it took me 4-5 days with the indicated tools above and ripping **** up. My doors paint job needs redone now. Slight difference between the 2 assemblys make it unusable. ONLY a prelude lock assembly will work on a prelude. If you have a local parts yard thats your best bet, but craigslist for brokedown preludes and ask if you can take off just that part. Assuming it is the same problem mine had. Have you tried pulling the rods on the inside of the door and seeing if that engages it?

Thanks for the update. I did manage to find the part online for about $30 shipped to me - which is great. Thanks for the tips on getting it off. I have a local Honda dealer that says they will put part on for labor of 150 - which may not be bad given the damage I would do in getting the part off. Still much cheaper than having the dealer do all of it - including buying the part.
