Default Dimensions/instructions for H22 oil passage drainback plugs for use with F22 F23 blocks

Dimensions/instructions for H22 oil passage drain back plugs for use with F22 F23 blocks...

FIRST THE DISCLAIMER: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DOUBLE-CHECK THESE DIMENSIONS. I AM POSTING THEM CORRECTLY TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, BUT I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF IT DOESN'T WORK FOR YOUR APPLICATION.

The two drain back holes that need to be plugged are different sizes: .800" and .712"

For proper o-ring sealing the plug itself should be .002"-.005" smaller than the hole.
So the plugs should be: .795" to .798" and .707" to .710"

Since the drain back passages appear to be semi-rough machined by Honda I chose to make mine with the looser tolerances to assure no interference problems (even more clearance will work fine, but I'm kind of AR about machining ): .795" and .707"

The depth of the two oil drain back passages is different so the plug length is different for each one. The larger diameter plug should be 2.525" long and the smaller diameter one should be 1.950" long... this allows for up to .030" to be decked from the head surface for compression without the plug sticking out of the passage. Once installed it won't fall out.

The highest o-ring on each plug should be at least .375" from the end of the plug. The upper end of the passages is odd shaped and this distance assures the o-rings will seal correctly. O-ring grooves should be .052" deep for use with 1/16th CS o-rings. The larger plug uses -017 Viton o-rings and the smaller one uses -015 Viton o-rings. I put four o-rings on each plug, but 2-3 probably would be fine.

Chamfer (bevel) the o-ring end of the plugs to easy installation.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: PUT A LARGE CHAMFER ON THE OPENNING OF THE DRAINBACK PASSAGES IN THE HEAD. This is to ease plug installation without pinching an o-ring. The small passage has an odd shaped opening at the bottom; I used a Dremmel tool with a flex shaft to chamfer that one.

The last thing I did was drill and tap the end of the plug for an 8X1.25 thread. Installing a bolt in this hole makes installation and removal of the plugs MUCH easier . You can use a slide hammer with this threaded hole to remove the plugs at rebuild time (I imagine the o-rings will be stuck in the passages after 1000s of abusive miles).

If I get a chance I'll add more descriptive pics in the next couple days. I hope this helps everyone.

Side note: Making these individually on a manual lathe takes too much time to be profitable for me... they'd probably cost 65$/pair. I have access to a CNC lathe if enough people were interested, and that would probably drop the cost to around $20/pair. I'd need at least 15 committed buyers to break even though. Anyone interested can PM me, and I'll get a definite price.
