Default converting to obd1

hey guys hows it goin?
anyway i am gonna get straight to the point.

i am in the middle of changing motors for a customer in a 96 prelude. it is obd 2 and i just realized that the motor he brought me to put in is obd1. the motor that came out originally was a h23a1 with a crank sensor. the motor that he brought me is a jdm h23a3 without a crank sensor.

so my question is: can i convert the car to obd1 by buying the conversion harness and a obd1 ecu? if so which ecu and harness (obd2a or obd2b) do i need?

by the way i have already swapped the intake, distributer, and original wiring harness onto the replacement motor. dont kno if this will make a difference.

thanks guys.

You'll need to swap out the oil pump gear and such so you can switch the crank sensor setup to down there, or you could wire up the jdm distributor to work with internal coil.

To get the obd stuff straight, yes just an obd2a->obd1 conversion harness and an obd1 ecu will cover it

you can still run it as an obd2 you don't need to switch to obd1. Run the stock computer. and run a obd1 distributer. On the obd2 car the crank sensor is on the pulley on the obd1 its in the dizzy. So either wire the car to use the crank sensor thats in the obd1 dizzy which will work with your obd2 computer. Or you can install the obd2 crank sensor and oil pump on the obd1 motor.

Either method will work and both you do not need to switch to the obd1 computer.

swap the oil pumps. Rigging the wiring would create headaches in the event of an electrical failure.

im just saying...swapping the oil pumps is the CORRECT way to do it. Any other way you and you are just rigging it to work

there is a thread somehwere in the FAQ that discusses this.
