completely lost.....
OK....heres a long story turned short. I just rebuilt my engine (H23) I finally finish everything and crank it up and get a CEL for the EGR system. I go through the check list in my HELM manual and everything check out which indicates a bad ECM. What do you guys think? I drove it the other day and got horrible gas milage (drove 80 miles and used 2/3 of a tank of gas) what in the world will cause me to run this rich? Could it be the ECM or is something wrong with my EGR system that Im missing? Could the CEL for the EGR cause the car to be that rich???? Please help?!?!

from your other post I see it is code 12.. specifically that code is the EGR VALVE!! When you get this code its for 2 reasons when you have ur egr hooked up... Either its stuck open or stuck closed... One will cause it to run rich and the other will cause it to run lean and bog down... Usually this bogging down is so svere it stall within 3 seconds if you dont keep the foot on the gas... Noting the other side is just as bad for richness... Correct me if you think I am wrong because I need a laugh today... The EGR does what? Controlled vaccuum what? less air means more gas and more air means less gas what?
Anywho, just because I knwo someone will argue this because they dont completely grasp this concept of what it really does.. Blocking it off wont hurt you at all.. Running rich is good... 18 mpg good..
Oh ya, you want to know how to remedy it right? Well, locate ur EGR valve.. should be ez... Then get two things.. a screwdriver and a can of carb cleaner/throttle body cleaner... Basically, some type of cleaner like that which cleans and drys in seconds unlike engine degreaser or any other kind of stuff like that... Then, tap on the top of the EGR with a screw driver and remove the vaccum hose that leads tot eh fuel rail plastic cover... Spray cleaner into the EGR valve via the open hole fomr the vacuum hose.. Tap soem more, spray again... Allow 30 secs dry time.. Replace everythign and crank ur car up... See if that does anything.. It should free it up as ghetto as it sounds... This problem is more common than you think... We had a guy last weekend whos car was boggin down... CODE 12... Cazrb cleaner and a screw driver like I said and boom... Like new... Stuck became unstuck and life went on! The worst you can come out with is needing a new EGR valve...
If I come off arrognat in this post, oh well.. Today, I feel arrogant!
