Default Clutch Problem

had my 5g for about a month now. i've noticed when i hit the clutch during shifting there's a slight feel to it. it's hard to describe, everything works fine but i feel almost a slight grinding if i'm shifting from say 2->3 and vice-versa.

i never felt it when i hit the clutch on my teg, smooth as butter, so i'm concerned i may need to replace the clutch or something. there's no resistence or anything, but it feels almost as if it needs to be lubed or something. anyone have a clue what it could be? it's BONE stock, as well, not even clear sidemarkers.

it's up to 73k, just had the 60k done without any problems. the mechanic said he may have heard something while breaking at high speeds when the engine dropped to 1500rpms, although i dunno if that's related at all. said it might be the timing belt or something related, and i probably shouldn't worry about it until i got a new timing belt put on.

any suggesstions or ideas would be great, thanks

ya, as what was said above. I don't think it's your clutch if it's grinding. Sounds like synchro's went bad, most likely just the 3rd gear.

ah ****, i was afraid of this. isn't it an expensive procedure to fix? guess i'll be double clutching it for a while until i can get my funds in order.

what do i do now if it's the syncros, and how can i test it?

i think it may be in other gears, there's no grinding sound or any vibration nearly like what would happen if you f'ed a shift. i just used 2->3 as an example

ya it's an expensive process -- mainly labor though. It's not hard to take out the tranny (about 40 minutes), then open and replace synchros's, about a full days worth (8 hours) over all, and that's pretty expensive.

i would rev match the gears (as you say double clutching even though it's not 'technically' double clutching). My tranny is the same, it's screwed, but I'm getting a motor swap so I'm leaving it.

I would just chuck that tranny and get yourself another one for 200 bucks, i'm sure.

so is there anyway to confirm it's the synchros?

how is getting a whole new tranny cheaper than replacing the syncros?

If you are grinding when you shift between gears it is definately your synchros without a doubt.

The reason why it is so expensive is because of all the labor.

it's not grinding at all, i can't feel it through my hand, it's just a small resistence through my clutch foot
