Default A/C problems

hey guys. its gettin pretty hot so i decided to finally put in a new a/c compressor for my 93 lude si because the old one was bad. anyways, i put it in and its still not blowing cold air, but i know for a fact that the new compressor works because it was tested and it worked fine. my dads mechanic friend said that since the green a/c light is not turning on when i push the a/c button, it means that its not triggering the a/c to turn on, thats why its not blowing any cold air. so he says that i need to replace that whole temperature console. does this sound about right? any other suggestions on what it could be? help!!

yeah some 4th gens have been known to have this kind of problem. during manufacture there was a bad solder that ends up breaking over the years. some people take it apart and resolder it but its not exactly easy. if you dont know what youre doin just replace the console.

I resoldered mine and now the direction issue that I had works. I still need to have my AC filled. I hope it works.

No, no matter which 4th Gen module you get, you need to resolder the connection points. All the 4th gen climate control modules have this problem.

I have a spare module. If you want, I can resolder them for you and ship it to you?

well mine's really getting strange on me.. when i push the AC button, sometime the green little light on top the AC button would come on and not come on. What does this mean...does this mean the AC needs to be refill?

Nope, that is a common problem resolved by resoldering the connections too.

Here's what it fixes;
*Flickering LED on the buttons
*The light that illuminates the background for the temperature and fan sliding switches
*Issues with the fan direction (defrost, face, floor)
*Makes the AC button work so that the compressor comes on.

I had a problem with the heater or temp cable. One day it just got stuck in one position.

I took the the console out to check the A/C issue at the same time and did a temp fix on it. While I was at it I fixed the cable problem.

When I pulled it out I noticed one of the pieces that held the cable was broken and was causing it to get stuck. I just used some electrical tape to make the wire thicker so it would stay in its place and hooked it back in, it works perfect now.

i'm planning on resoldering all the wires. i mean that there are 2 harnesses that plug into the heater box. i'm gonna resolder each connect point for each wire on both harnesses. just to be safe.

as for my problem, the heater cable isn't the problem. it's something internal. it's soooo hard to the mechanism that the cable can't take it and will strip or the gear in the heater box where the cable connects to strips. i think i'd have to take apart the whole dash to figure it out.

johnny five, just to let you know, switching hot/cold it isn't that big of problem. you can still get any amount of cold or hot air while you're driving. while you're driving just reach down on the passenger side near the middle console piece and feel around for a cable connect to a little pin almost. this pin you should be able to get 2 fingers on and either push back or forward. one way is hot the other is cold and the middle is well, the middle.

i've been doing it for about a year and i can find it down there within 1-5 seconds.
