C E L code 61, primary O2 sensor: What are the causes?
I need your technical help.
My car has been going through oxygen sensors faster than tires, which is not normal. Currently I am running a Mugen Header, stock cat and a Mugen exhaust. I know that the code means that there is either an exhaust leak, or the sensor is not working.
Does anybody have any ideas what might be causing my car to go thru so many O2 sensors?
Thanks,
Brian.

So everytime you change the 02 sensor the CEL goes off??
Have you tested any of the sensors that you thought were bad??
That is VERY strange

Yes. The last sensor took 8,000 miles to go. The one before took about 20,000 miles. I've had the exhaust/header for almost 4 years and I know that it does not leak. Once a new sensor is installed, it is great for a while.

I have not. The last go-round was at the the dealership, and that is what they said the problem was. One of my friends questioned wether or not the wires may be getting too hot and thus losing conductivity.
Thanks for the input,
Brian.

Don't feel bad. I have the same setup and I trip a PO133 primary sensor code every couple thousand miles or so. I've learned to just ignore and then clear it with my Actron obdii scanner. It says it's a slow response from the sensor which was already replaced once. It hardly ever throws the code now. I seriously don't think there's anything wrong with the sensor and I don't have any exhaust leaks e.t.c. The only thing i haven't tested is the conductivity on the o2 sensor wires, but I assume they are fine as well. If you are really concerned, get a Helms and go through the tests it lists with a voltmeter. Oh, and I recommend an Actron Scanner. Best investment ever made for the 'lude.
