Default Brake Light

I have an 01 5th gen and I've noticed that when my brake pads get low, my "red" brake light lights up (the light that lights up when your e-brake is up). Is there a brake pad sensor or something?

Yea this can be caused when the pads get worn down becuase more brake fluid is need to take up the extra distance of the worn out pad. Your float could be sticking also.
