im just confused why they are charging 100 bucks to put a new axle in when they have to take them out anyway to change a clutch...i hope they arent charging 200 in parts and labor to rebuild an old axle when you can get a new set for less than that

also..it just seems wierd that a clutch would just "go out" like that..i hope that was the real problem

sounds like that shop saw you coming from a mile away

lmao the funny part is that the shop is less then a mile away from my house..

Literally a 5 min walk down the street.

I think it was partially because the whole month before yesterday i was learning how to drive a stick and untill a few days ago i learned how to launch without stalling and violently bucking.. but it could also be because the clutch was soo damn old anyways.

so you were burning the clutch out past their shop everyday??that's probably even more reason why "they saw you coming from a mile away"

i hope its just the clutch..if not i have a tranny in my dad's garage

did the shifter feel like usual? like all the gears engaged like normal, with a little resistance then pop in

did the clutch pedal feel normal?</TD></TR></TABLE>
What does it mean if there is a little resistance before the gear pops in?
And then after a while it won't pop in?! Then the clutch gets fooked.
I get this problem but new clutches fix it, for a time. Dude what's wrong with my car, no mechanic has a clue on it!

JUST got my new clutch installed

Car runs great, it was mainly because of it being a old clutch with high mileage on it.

and because you were 'launching' everytime you shifted. Learn how to drive a car with manual transmission before you ruin this one too.

What do you mean I launch everytime I shift?

I shift exactly like this

1. Clutch in
2. Shift
3. Let clutch out slowly/moderately
4. Then gas

You mean you "assume" that I do? Because I don't.

Yeah.

Launching, you know... the way to make a car accelerate when its at a complete stop.

And no I am not talking about in drag terms (2,500rpms+). So yeah, that comment was basically pointless. I think your confusing yourself with me saying I launch as I shift.

that isn't really launching..
i don't drag much myself but my brother does it all the time in his wrx.
first gear.
clutch down.
6000 rpm rev.
let that sucker go.
when i say let that sucker go i don't mean ease that shiet into engagement.
that totally defeats the purpose of "launching"
not exactly good for your car but fun? eh?
risky business.

his tires don't spin as much since it's awd.
damn that shiet pulls though.
i dont' think 6000 would be a wise decision on a fwd.
that shiet will spin all the way thru first.
melt your rubber all over the blacktop.
enjoy if you've got the financial backing to support this kind of thing..
for me.. it's a waste.
track.
that's a different story..

6k is pretty high, most people I know that goes to the track launch at around 3-4k or so.

it's awd.
more grip.
i personally think that's a bit high too but that's his decision.
and i guess it works since he's winning?
3k seems a bit low for me.
i'd go around 4k w/ good tires.
but i don't launch anyways so oh well.

oh and by track do you mean like a circuit or a strip?

At the strip.

My friend has a 2005 evo and he launches at 4k. Just a chirp of the tires and hes gone. at 4k i'd squeal like a bitch.. Only because my tires suck.

6k sounds pretty close to redline.

hmm.
well it seems to work for him.
oh well. they're not my tires. heh.
i'm forgetting his times on the strip.
it should be quicker now that he has his downpipe and exhaust in.

How so?

Anyways,

My CV boots were wearing and it started to damage the CV join it self and now I gotta replace both front CV joints because of the lack of mantinence the previous owner did to the car.. Its not that much of a expensive replacement so I'll get the other side done in a week or so.

If you have basic tools and some basic knowledge you can do the axles with a friend pretty easily. Just a suggestion, you save some money and gain some experience...

tell your brother to stop being a mad tyte drag racer, and figure out how to actually launch...slipping/modulating the clutch hardly defeats the purpose of launching at higher rpm's
