Default Advancing timing

I need some help on my 4g si. A mechanic helped me before to advance my timing by 2 degrees and I need to get the car smogged so i need to adjust it back to normal. Do you turn the cap or the whole housing. Basically, the cap is black and the housing is silver, which one do you actually turn? thanks.

the whole distrbutor needs to be turned, it use 2 12mm bolts, loosen them and turn it, but if you don't have a timing light, save yourself the trouble and take it to someone that does

You should make a mark (line) on your distributor and on the head so you just need to align them to be back at 15*

you shoot the gun at the flywheel through a hole, there are timing marks there that you use
