What wire was crossed that you found out was making this problem occur? I feel like I'm really close to finishing this conversion....</TD></TR></TABLE>
I didn't do the conversion on my car. My car was 4WS from the facotry. However, while troubleshooting the random problem of 4WS not working after turning the car off and back on within 15 minutes, I encountered a problem EXACTLY like the one you described.

I am talking about crossing the wires that connect to the 4WS ECU. I can try to take a pic of what I am talking about. Things are kind of crazy for me right no though.

Hope this helps.

Andy

How did you accidentally cross any wires though... The two main plugs that go into the 4WS ECU can only go in one way. Did you cut and splice any of the wires yourself or something?

AndyD, can you please go into more detail about what happened with your situation so that I might be able to figure my problem out?

Thanks!

I was thinking he might be referring to the 4 wires that go to the rear actuator but they are keyed to the 4ws control unit.

I've still got his 4ws control unit, about to ship it back since it tested fine.

Yeah, there's no way to cross the 4 wires that go to the actuator or ECU because they're shaped a certain way so that that cannot happen....

I'm trying to figure out how wires get crossed when they're pinned into connectors....

haha leroy.

ummm... reading through an additional to the 4ws system manual. I found this...

If power to 4WS control unit was shut down for battery
replacement, 4WS control unit removal, or removal and/or
replacement of No. 43 (10-amp) fuse from dash fuse box, 4WS
control must be reset. To reset 4WS control unit, start
engine and turn steering wheel to right lock then to left
lock.

have you tried such a manouever?

code 10 has to do with the sub steering angle sensor, which means that any of the front sub angle steering sensor, 4ws control unit, or harness connector could be affected.

code 22 has to do with the main steering angle sensor, which mean sthat any of the front sub steering angle sensor, front main steering angle sensor, 4ws control unit, or harness conector could be the problem.

from reading the post, it's obvious you had your 4ws unit tested and probably checked your connections, which leaves the angle sensors. this 4ws additional I have might help you out - it basically goes through how to set up 4ws for the first time (setting the angle sensors with flashes from the control unit), PM me and I can email it to you. it's a ~4meg pdf.

cheers and good luck.

I will be converting my 5th gen soon. Trouble shooting the 4ws unit is a PITA, but it is well worth it.

Advantages to both. The 3g system is much simpler and therefor much easier to work on.

So smart we couldn't fix your's yet!

Never driven a 3g but the 4g 4ws *should* work better as the car takes speed, turn angle, and other inputs into account.
